Short but Sweet Trip!

Enjoying your trip report! I just made reservations for an impromptu trip to Universal this weekend! We haven't been since 2004. Your trip report has be so looking forward to seeing all the new things and the old favs.

You just made my day, thank you! I hope you have a fabulous trip!

So here we were for our flying-home day. We certainly had a good night's sleep in our very comfy room. They were so kind to let us have a late check-out. Our flight wasn't until 4:30. They granted us a very generous 1:30 check-out, which was perfect for getting to the airport and returning the rental car.

Armed with one more day on our Universal passes, we were expecting to spend the day at the park. However, we woke up to cold cold cold rainy conditions. (it was snowmaggedon in NC where we were flying home to...we heard even parts of Florida got snow). Here in Orlando though it was just miserably cold rain. So we decided to not hit the parks.

Having slept in, we did discover that the breakfast options at resort were nicely varied. You could have just a cup of tea or coffee, a teeny tiny something or a full buffet. We opted for just tea for me and coffee for Husband.

Wanting one last good meal hurrah, we headed to City Walk and Bubba Gump's. So we ended up here a few minutes before they were opening for lunch on a cold, windy, rainy Wednesday morning.

After killing a few minutes in the gift shop, we were seated in a booth in the bar area, and pretty much had the place to ourselves for awhile. As a result, service was exceptional, fun and friendly.

Since it was 5:00 somewhere and clinging to the precious few hours left of our vacation, I started with chardonnay and Husband went for something blue that he liked, but I don't remember what it was.

For food, I was intrigued by the Kentucky Bourbon Skewers: Large Shrimp skewered with Red and Green Bell Peppers, Red Onion and Andouille Sausage , brushed Kentucky Bourbon Sauce. Served with Mashed Potatoes and
Corn on the Cob.

Husband chose Forrest's Seafood Feast which was a bunch of fried shrimp and fish n chips. We both very much enjoyed our choices.

Although I was very full, Husband somehow got talked into dessert. He ordered Mama's Best Strawberry Shortcake. He really liked it. I barely tasted it because I was so full. It was okay. It hardly had any strawberries. More berries and less shortcake to really make it Mama's Best.

Very much enjoyed our experience here...especially when we were treated to a fun trivia quiz.

Although not cheap (no food in City Walk is), we found this to be reasonable for the quality level.

:thumbsup2

After our very fine meal, we headed back to the resort to (sadly) check out.

We were hopeful at this point though that our flight would get cancelled because of weather and we would get stuck in Orlando for another night.

Off to the airport we went, turned in our rental car. Alamo was easy breezy here, by the way.

And even more sadly, our flight home was not only NOT cancelled, it was a mere twenty minutes delayed.

So here we were getting ready to fly home to snowmaggedon, truly our last hurrah in Florida, so we had drinks and a little snack at Johnny Rivers (which was the only option at our Southwest Airlines gate).

Having just come from three nights of Disney dining and a night of Universal/City Walk dining, we were not exactly starving, but did want a nosh to go with drinks. So we decided to try the Chicken Chili Nachos.

I confess that this didn't sound overly good to me (Husband wanted it)...Chicken on nachos? Not my favorite-sounding concept. Surprisingly it was quite good! They put the chili on the bottom, so the chips didn't get too soggy too fast. Cheese, salsa, lots of jalapeno slices, the chicken itself was good... this turned out to be the perfect last little Orlando hurrah for us!

Service was cheerful and good. And I thought the prices were reasonable, especially for an airport, and especially for Orlando.

Our only disappointment was that our flight didn't get canceled to take us back to the winter mess we had been missing.

Thanks for taking the time to do this trip report. I have had a good read while sat in the pub waiting for friends to arrive for dinner. Unfortunately the food won't be on a par with what you had - but it gives me some good ideas for our next trip.

I'm heading to the World in December and will visit US/IOA for the first time for a day or two. You mentioned having to put your purse in a locker before riding some rides. Was it because of the size or does every purse no matter the size have to go in a locker?

They were making everyone carrying anything put it in a locker. I wasn't even carrying mine. It was just hanging on my shoulder (a small one), and they made me lock it up. I've never had that happen there before.

From these boards, I learned that only small fanny packs that are clipped with a three-pronged clasps are allowed.

My guess is an insurance requirement to prevent the possibility of strangulation or amputation if the purse straps get caught on something.

Yes, I know other amusement parks allow small purses, but you never know what the park is required.

I'm sure you are right...better safe than sorry for the park folks!

Just read your review as we are thinking of a 2 night trip to RPR in October. Thanks for all the detailed information :)

I have spent a lot of time in Cedar Point, which is also fussy about purses. I happen to like them to store my cellphone and some money. I bought a tiny wallet sized (fabric) over the shoulder purse and when going to rides where they are strict. I slide it under my shirt. Worked perfectly.

Guess i'll have to use the same trick at Universal. We are so spoiled at WDW when it comes to bags :)
