Short Alamo report

We tried Alamo after avoiding them since 1990 due to the poor condition of the vehicles and high pressure for add ons.

Picked up at MCO on 2/15 @ 10:30 AM. I used the Quicksilver lane after signing up through our business. No line at at all and other than a slight push to prepay our gas there was no pressure to upgrade or buy extra insurance.

Across the street in the garage we just went to the SUV isle and picked from what was there. Most were small SUV's and we could not get our 3 cases, 2 carryons and 4 people in a Subaru. We then got everything in a Jeep Liberty, but that was the largest on the isle.

On return there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for a fellow to check the vehicle over. He seemed very unhappy in his work and just ripped the reciept and shoved it at me when done. All I said was "Hi" when he got to us. The skycap told us we had to take the reciept to a booth in the garage as the Alamo employee just walked off. If the Alamo employee was my employee, I'd a fired him on the spot. Then we had to take this reciept to the booth and wait a couple of minutes to get the final paperwork.

I think I'll go back to Dollar next trip.

I'm debating trying Alamo over our usual Dollar rental for next trip. I'm willing to trade a little surly abuse for a better rate. How much did you save over Dollar's rate?

Pretty much the same price. Had a full size at Dollar reserved but got the SUV at Alamo for about the same. When we were trying to get the luggage in the little SUV's (Subaru & Suzuki's) I was wishing I had kept the Dollar for a bit there. The reservation said "Chevy Blazer or equivilant". My neighbor has the Chevy, so I tried the cases on theirs w/o any problem.

Wow, that guy must have been having a bad day!
In the two times we have used Alamo, our return was rather uneventful on one. On the other one, the guy who handled it had just been read the riot act by another customer because he did not realize they had arrived before someone who he waited on first. He wasn't rude to us, but he was very cautious...he said, "I just want to make sure you guys are next because I don't want to get yelled at again!"

I used Dollar last summer & Alamo 2 weeks ago. Not really any difference between the two in my opinion. Actually got a nicer vehicle (condition-wise) & 'free' upgrade with Alamo. Got a brand new Pontiac with 3 miles on it.

That check in procedure is nothing like I experienced at MCO on 12/27. We drove up, the Alamo agent entered to model number, checked the gas, and printed me a receipt. That was it. Took 2 minutes, max.

Thanks for the report:) We're all set with Alamo for our May trip, so hopefully we'll have no 'added' complications.

As far as the lot attendant's attitude. I can't say I blame him for not liking his job, but he should hide it better with the customer.
