I've stayed at Shorecrest. It is located in North Myrtle Beach, part of it is on the oceanfront and the other part is across the street from the ocean. There is an indoor pool, and outdoor pool, and a lazy river (all fairly small). They had some activities going on, but I didn't pay attention to what they were. Myrtle Beach has tons to do-- beautiful beaches, great restaurants, golf, two amusement parks (think small), there are two large outlet stores, Ripley's Acquarium, many dinner shows, musical shows, etc. For the kids, I highly recommend Ripley's; there is also a children's museum which kept our daughter amused on rainy afternnoon. It is a BUSY place year round, but especially in the summer. Lots of traffic--I haven't been to VA Beach lately, so I can't make a comparision, but you will not lack for things to do in Myrtle Beach.
