Shopping online for Reward Points

My reward programs are all slow earners, very slow earners. I think it's because I rarely, if ever, shop online. So I was thinking that maybe if those of you who did shop online would be willing to share some of your experiences it might be beneficial to us that don't shop online. Maybe we, specifically me, just aren't realizing the savings to be had online.

I know for me I compare shipping / handling costs to me going to the actual store (gas). It ends up cheaper by going to the store especially if I'm out running errands that day anyhow.

Just seems like I must be missing something.

I shop online IF the shipping is less or = to what I would pay for gas. Also I love shopping through mypoints great stores with lots of good point deals

Check for sites that offer gift cards with cash back and free shipping - I buy Home Depot for my Dad in $100 amounts, he pays me the cash and I get the credit. He shops there regularly. This also works at bookstores. One lady on SR was talking about a grocery store that you can do this with (not in my area.) A lot of the time there is free shipping after a certain amount is spent. Plan so you buy enough to make the minimum. I buy my shoes at Shoebuy - free shipping always, even returns. Restaurant.com is a favorite for no shipping and cash back. I keep an eye out for free shipping offers and/or increase cash back amounts for favorite merchants.

I don't make a lot on shopping, because I am not going to spend money to make money. And as for the price of gas option - I can walk to a K-mart, a WalMart and a large mall, so that doesn't come into play for me. Spend a little time looking at the merchants you are interested in and check out their shipping policies, then keep you eye out for special shipping deals.
