O.K. I know it's not Disney related....if it was up to me we would be going to the Port Orleans on Monday, but instead we're doing one week, flying into Tampa and staying in North Redington Beach. Any ideas on good shopping places, ie/ malls or outlets. Haven't been down to this part of florida in 20 years.
Any suggestions would be of great help.

The two largest malls in the Tampa Bay area are both adjacent Tampa International Airport. The International Plaza has Dillard's, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom while Westshore Plaza has Saks 5th Avenue, Macy's, Sears and JC Penney's. Nearly all of the American chains you can think of have branches in one or both of these malls.

There really are no "outlet" malls in Tampa-St. Petersburg. The closest is in Ellenton which is across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge near Bradenton. If you're going to drive all the way there you might as well drive to Orlando where there are excellent outlet malls.

Thanks for the info guys!!! I checked out the Prime Outlet in Ellentown and it is only 35 miles or 51 minutes from our hotel in North Redington Beach, so I think we will give that one a try for outlet shopping. Although with the thunderstorms they are expecting this coming week we might be forced to go to once of the 2 malls suggested by KingBoboftheNorth,CR,or Nigel.
My sincere thanks folks....

You're welcome.

Calliemom - we stayed at Treasure Island in May and it's close to Redington Beach. We went to Tyrone Square in St. Petersburgh - twice on rainy days - loved it. It's huge. There are some other stores in the next block, sort of behind this Mall - Best Buy, Michaels and Bed, Bath and Beyond. There's also a very touristy, but cute area, called John's Pass that has lots of shops. They are mostly tourist items, but some quality. This is on the main road down the coast - I think it's Gulf Blvd. There are lots of tourist brochures around so you'll probably find these places.

Hope you have a laptop with you. I just saw this today. We're going again next March, after a few days in Disney. It's a beautiful area.

Hi Nora,
we are here now and tried out Tyrone Square and loved it. My dd 9 is in love with the girls department in Macy's as they have the "coolest" Hannah Montana clothes....Oh my bank account is not going to be happy by the end of this trip.
Just chilling an listening to the waves with a nice cocktail as I write this....don't hate me all and thanks once again for all your help.

Excellent food and atmosphere my kids wanted to eat there everyday

If your looking for a bit of culture the Savaldor Dali museum in St Peterburgh is great. Neat gift shop. Try and take a guided tour of the museum it is well worth the interesting antic-dotes the guides have about Mr. Dali

Just wondering how the shopping trip went at the outlet mall in Ellentown? We will also be staying in North Redington after WDW and I wouldn't mind checking out a good mall not to far away. We leave in 2 weeks so I was hoping to figure out if it would be worth it to go there or hit an outlet mall in Orlando. My husband said I only get one shot this trip to go to a mall so I better make it a good one!

Actually Susan, the outlet shopping centre in Ellentown was 60 minutes from our hotel and as we were having such a good time doing the beach in the a.m. and going to Tyrone Square some afternoons (10 minutes from our hotel) we simply didn't bother. From my past experience in Orlando, most recently in Oct/Nov 07 I would do the outlet shopping in Orlando.
Have a great trip!

Well I am happy to read that your family was having too much fun on the beach to shop! I would hate to waste an hour driving just to go to a mall. Probrably best to hit the Orlando outlet mall when we leave like you suggested. Thanks!:)
