Where do you shop for your young teenager? She needs some clothes, but she is in between stages. So where does everyone shop for their daughter without breaking the bank. Thanks so much.

We try and wait for 20 or 30% off at Kohls. DD12 & DD15 both find things they like there. Grandparents took DD15 on a shopping spree for Christmas at Delia's.
I just remembered, when DD15 was 12 or 13 she would get a lot of her tops at Aeropostale when they had a sale.

American Eagle for DD14. They run 40% off sales once in a while but you can usually always get 20%. When she was around 12 Aeropostal was a favorite....but not so much at 14. American Eagle rules for her.

Maybe Forever 21. It's inexpensive but the quality is just ok. The plus is that the clothes tend to be more fashion forward and its possible to get pieces that look like they cost much more than you paid. You just have to be prepared to spend a good amount of time sorting through some junk or just plain weird stuff. I am 24 and have shopped there on and off since I was a young teen.

On the same vein there's Wet Seal, H&M and oddly enough Target. The last 6 articles of clothes I have bought came from Target.

It really depends on her style. My DD was (and still is) definitely more of a tomboy in terms of how she dresses. She absolutely will not wear a skirt or dress, nothing with ruffles, nothing with flowers on it, nothing pink, and she's definitely not interested about brand names. She's more of a jeans, tank top or tshirt and a hoodie kind of girl. I've always shopped for her at Kohls, Old Navy, Target, Walmart and JCPenney.

My 13 year old is still very innocent and not sophisticated. She loves to shop and hits Justice still, Target, Kohl's, Lord & Taylor, Children's Place (yoga pants only), and a favorite is Marshalls/TJ Maxx. However she gets lots of hand-me-downs from Hollister, GAP, Old Navy etc. Wears size 10/12, 12/14, 14/16 depending upon the store.

My DD is pretty cool and loves thrift store shopping. We can afford to take her for new clothes but she likes to find those funky, different pieces that no one else is wearing.

When we do actual shopping, she likes old navy, Hot Topic (with my discretion), Marshall's and TJ Maxx.

My DD13 doesn't care about labels but likes a certain style (i.e. no pink, sparkles, ruffles or flowers). Basically anti-Justice :rotfl:. Her clothes mainly come from Old Navy, American Eagle, Aeropostle, Kohls, Charlotte Russe and Ross. I buy very little at full price.

DD13 is a rising 8th grader and Aero is her favorite store. She likes the skinny t-shirts or tanks w/layered shirts and jeans or jean shorts. She's not a very adventurous dresser or totally in touch w/the latest trends.

I did actually pick a cute purple flowered tank there for 3.99 that she loves! That does not happen very often and she is not a flowers/girly type dresser.

Thanks so much. She has plenty of aero t-shirts. Mostly what she wears. But she was asking for some nicer stuff. She doesn't care for Justice anymore, they are putting too much sequins on their clothes now. She's not one that likes a lot of attention.

Do you shop in kids section still for the 13 year old? or Juniors?

What is H&M?

I've found some good deals at The Loft, Express, and American Eagle.

Something tells me swimsuits are going to be a nightmare though. DD is developing and I don't really want her in a bikini.

If she can still fit in a kids 14-16 check out 2 piece suits at Target, Kohls and Old Navy. DD found ones she likes that came with matching rash guard shirts. She likes the option of having the shirt when she wants to be a little more covered. If she needs a junior size board shorts over bikini bottoms is an option to give her more coverage or opt for board short bottom and a bandeau top for more coverage.

My daughter must have 25 Aero shirts but now in 8th grade they are going out. Justice really after 5th grade is not "in"- unfortunately my daughter wears a size 10/12 childrens pants and even the smaller sizes at aero are to big for her. It was hell finding her a nice "older looking" dress for her 8th grade dance- ended up buying a bigger one and getting it altered so she didn't have to buy one from the childrens section!
My daughter gets some clothes from Mandee, Shirts from American Eagle, Forever 21 and Debs. For shirts she can shop at these other places but for pants its tough- some of her pants are still from Justice but at least you can't tell they are "justice"-no identifying marks on them to say they are Justice clothes, unlike the shirts!

DD14 is finally getting some nicer clothes and we have gotten them at Kohl's, Maurice's, and the thrifts and consignment shops! At our consignment shop you can find clothes from stores you may never have thought to look, all in one place. Aero also has their fashion tops, not just the tees. We've gotten some neat ones for $5. She needed juniors sizes at 13. You do need to look and look for nicer things that aren't too skimpy. Also, this spring DD14 got some scarves which will dress up a plain top.

DD11 is in between kids and juniors- some girls 16 works, but in tops and shorts we are pretty firmly in juniors. We got a Shopko in our town this year and she has found several things there actually. Including cute juniors swimsuit pieces like tankinis that actually cover her belly (and have the necessary lining/support at the chest) and boy shorts bottoms. Swimsuits are a bear at this age- bigger girl sizes do not have the support on top and juniors are skimpy so I was really happy with the Shopko suits.

I just want to chime in to say if you haven't given your thrift shops a chance, I would take a peek at what you can find.
Most of our favorite items (some really nice stuff) come from the Goodwill store. I stop in every week or two. Sometimes I leave empty handed, sometimes I have one or two things for the five of us. I've actually gotten my DH a lot of new pairs of pants there... I think a lot of men buy pants that don't fit and don't want to take them back so eventually they just get donated.
