I was at Wal-Mart last week when I was passing a shopping cart w/ a 2 year old standing in the cart. You guessed it! He fell out on his head. I heard the most horrific noise when he hit the floor. Then he started screaming.

I absolutely can't stand it when I see children in shopping carts and are not strapped in. It just makes me so angry. I will hear parents "telling" them to sit. Not making them sit or stapping them in, just lip service.

I'm not sure of the exact numbers, maybe someone here knows. There are alot of children seriously hurt and killed each year from shopping carts or should I say from parents not making there children safe.

Please strap in your children and don't let them ride on the front of the carts either.

sorry, but I'm one of the parents who lets her kid ride in the front of the cart. :earseek:

It's not the riding in the cart that's a danger, it's the parents who let the kids stand up (my kids always SAT in the cart). Way too many parents these days tell their kids to do alot of things but never make them actually do it, but I'm usually in the minority on these boards. Don't worry the parents can always sue Walmart for not having a sign that letting your kid's ride in the carts could be dangerous.

I agree Beth76. I work in a local ER and we get at least 10 a year in our small community. Usually its not to bad, bruising etc.... sometimes is a little worse, a broken arm or dislocation of the fingers/shoulder. Sometimes its awful, like a fx skull.

How terrible for that child to fall and hit his head!! :(:( So sad!!

shouldn't you then be agreeing with ladydancer?

I used to work for an orthopedic surgeon. We saw several with broken legs. It is a twisted break because the leg catches on the cart as they fall. This type of break also seen in child abuse. I have been known to say something to the mother some say thank you some say mind your own business.

oops your right, I copied the wrong name. I do agree with the original poster.
