I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but I am stressing about what shoes to wear. I go to Disney frequently, and find I am very comfortable in yellow box flip flops for all the walking. I have traditionally stayed away from rides that get you wet. I have never been to IOA, and it's been 14 years since I was at Universal. With the amount of "wet" rides, I think the flip flops would be perfect. But with the rides that you dangle on, I am concerned about loosing them. Is there a pocket to store them in? Or can you leave them on the platform? I would like to avoid the lockers for obvious reasons! Can any of you US junkies shed some light on this? I would be very appreciative!!!

You can't leave anything on the platform. If you are wearing flip flops, you either need to sit on them or hold them on the ride if there is a possibility that they will fly off.

I normally wear the Velcro Nike sandals, so they stay on and have a sole like a sneaker.:)

I wear flip flops all the time! On some rides I sit on them, on others I hold them. You have to be really careful if you're sitting on them as they may fly out from under you.... then again I'm 100pounds and have never had mine fly out.

I am in the market to buy some Teva or Chacos shoes though. These things are "in style" on college campuses plus they offer a lightweight and full support shoe that wont fall of. They also come in enough fabrics to match any outfit.

Although I still dont know how I feel about the price tag :confused3

Haha! I am not much heavier than you! I think I'm gonna wear the flip flops. I can always go back the room and change if it becomes annoying. As far as price, all my money is going to this trip. My new yellow box were on sale for 24.99$ and I had a 20% off coupon! I know exactly how I feel about that price tag!

Thanks for the replies!:thumbsup2

Yellow box shoes are very comfy and adorable. you should be fine. Unless you're a hit the ground and run kinda of person you wont need to go back to the room and change.

The only reason Im even considering the price is because we're getting Annual Passes and going to be making several trips... 45 dollar shoes that will save me some leg pain and hassle over several trip seem worth it to me.

I always wear Havaianas, they're very comfy flip flops.
I always sit on them on rides like Drago Challenge. If you're worried about them slipping from under you, then push your hands through the strap and keep them on your arms/wrists.

You are not alone in stressing about what shoes to wear, lol. I'm going to US/IOA in a couple of weeks for the first time and went on a major sandal shopping hunt. Ended up with Teva's Toachi 2. It's going to be hot and humid, no need to wear shoes imho.

If by shoes you mean real tennis shoes then yes. I wouldn't recommend walking around bareful ;) we'll leave that to tarzan at disney. Let me know how you like your teva's! They're much cheaper than Chacos but I didn't like the style as much... But if they're comfortable heck with that they look like! ha!

Barefoot in the park is definitely out, lol. Actually the Toachi 2 is $90, pretty much the same as the Chaco sandals. I'm just the opposite, prefer the Teva look.

Now today at the Walking Company in the Mall of America I tried on a pair of Ecco Biom Walk 2 walking shoes, mama mia! At $175 they seem to be worth every penny. Never have spent that much on shoes ever but giving it serious consideration.

When Harry Potter first opened the TM's were putting rubber bands around the feet and shoes of guests wearing flip flops. That stopped because it just slowed the loading too much. So now lots of guest lose them.

The TM didn't even tell us to take off our flip flops and sit on them or anything. I was avoiding reading about the ride so it would be a surprise so I never knew what drastic movements or anything it did. Halfway through riding I tried to take my shoes off and hold on to them. It was hard but I managed to do it. Thankfully I never lost my shoes.

Last August/Sept I wore flip flops and wouldn't have had any problem on FJ, except the long legged lady next to me kicked the back of my foot and knocked my flip flop right off.:rotfl: Glad I carried several pairs, as I had to buy a pair of Sanucks that day after the ride. After that I sat on them and never had a problem. We just got back from WDW late Sunday night (5/8). We spent a day at Universal with another DISer friend. I sat on my OluKai Ohana flip flops and she wore her Nike Celso flip flops. Neither of us had a problem.

One thing though. The water rides at Universal are alot wetter than the ones at Disney. Be sure to use Body Glide (or some other antichafing product) between and under your toes and then reapply after the water rides. Being from the south, I live in flip flops pretty much year around. They never give me a blister anywhere, except Universal. Without body glide I get one on the side of my big toe and also underneath the pad of my middle toe.:confused3
