Thank you for the wonderful feedback that I have received about all of the Flash signatures. I’m happy that you like them so much.

I have received quite a few requests lately for countdowns in signatures. Instead of answering each of them individually, I will answer all of them together here and refer the requests and further questions to this post.

1) Will you make me a countdown clock?
Yes.
2) Will you host the clock for me?
No, (I’ll explain why later)
3) Will you make a non-countdown Flash type signature for me like Dan’s or others I have seen with links and what not?
I’m sorry but no, they require MUCH more work/time and for right now, I can’t commit that much time to it. Possibly in the future.
4) Can I do updates to Flash clocks myself?
Not unless you have Flash 5 and the .fla file (which I will send you if you have Flash 5 with instructions on how to do it)
5) I’m trying to use Stu’s directions on the UK site and I can’t upload the file properly to my DIS web site, what’s wrong?
The DIS free web-hosting site won’t allow those types of files to be uploaded nor can you use it to store a Flash .swf file. You will need to find another host that allows these types of files on their server.
6) Can I put the countdown in a web page?
Yes, but again you will need to find a host that allows that type of file on their server.
7) Why won’t you host it for me, you do it for moderators and chat hosts?
2 reasons a) That’s another bonus of being a mod/host b) The Internet host I use allows only a certain amount of information for each user site each day (we refer to that as “bandwidth”). Some of the files go over their bandwidth limit every day. When this happens, their server shuts them down and it won’t work for the rest of that particular day for that particular user. Because of this, I have to set up a separate site for each user’s signature file. It requires a bit of work and time. Add that to the time it takes to create the file itself and the time it takes to do any required maintenance to that file in the future and multiply that by the number of requests that I get and you may quickly see that I would be doing nothing else with my life.

Solution: Set up a site yourself and I will help you out.
I have only found 1 truly suitable site so far: http://www.brinkster.com
They are a truly free site and should be respected for what they are still willing to do when others have stopped.

If I haven’t answered your question, or you have more questions, please ask them here because more likely than not, someone else has the same question but was afraid to ask. Comments are welcome as always and if any other techies think I left something out, please add it.

Thanks Mr J Cricket, great info.

I took your advice and set up a site for myself and I'm pursuing the Countdown Clock that Stu from the UK uses with the Java programming.

I'm looking for a good price on Macromedia's Flash 5 product so I can buy it for myself. Since you repeated it in sections 4 and 5, I'm going to presume that it has to be Flash 5 and not an earlier version of the Flash product.

Thanks again.

Yes, Flash 5 is required. Flash 4 does not support the proper date actionscripting.

Good comment and point, thank you.

Flash 6 should be out soon too which may drive down the price of 5.
