Shoes for the parks maybe flats?UPDATE post 66

I'm not suggesting inappropriate clothing but I would NEVER go to WDW or anywhere in shorts and sneakers outside of the gym. Some of just care more about our personal appearance and I'm not suggesting we dress up, but a light weight sundress and moisture licking appropriate under clothes look better and are more practical IMHO, but I also don't get all the posters that talk about chaffing, so maybe its me. During the day, My DH, wears a short sleeve button down and khaki shorts. I wear a sundress with undergarments enough to cover my rear (think boy shorts/bike shorts)! We both tend toward sandals and I've spent over 10 trips (out of 40 and some in heels!) in jellies and kitten heels, but thats just me. And yeah, I hate the idea that everyone at WDW has to look like crap. That's a choice. I don't run to my resort often but seriously, you can still project a good imagine and be 100% comfortable.

I'm putting on my flame suit, but I believe in the times where people took pride in their appearance like during the first days of WDW/DL. Just a different perspective.

Also, I have multiple pairs of cole haan and coach flats, all have been brilliant in the parks.

:thumbsup2 I don't understand why many people think it is either look good and be uncomfortable or look terrible and be comfortable. It also depends on the time of the year it is not always hot in WDW on our January trip we had to use multiple sweaters to we warm (so no hot sweaty mess excuse right :) ).

They look like they have no support for walking. I, again, recommend Skecher's Go Walks.

I don't wear shoes with too much support my sneakers are minimalist. My feet are not use to have all that support. All the support will actually make my feet hurt a lot. This flats have a little support which is perfect for me, because I found that flats that don't have any support make my feet hurt and that is because of the "toe spring" that make my feet curve up, so that is the only reason a little padding in the flats work for me.

I too see people dressed inappropriately all the time at the parks (too much skin, high heels, etc.) but I got a good chuckle out of your post and the fact that you hate the idea that everyone has to look like crap at a theme park.

I'm not sure what you are used on an every day basis but wearing shorts and tennis shoes is very normal in today's time at a theme park (and really for every day wear) and dressing up is not very normal at a theme park unless you may be attending some special event or dinner at the parks or resort.

I dress up every single day for work - it just ain't happening for me when on vacation at WDW or any other theme park. For me it will always be T-shirts, shorts, capris, tennis shoes and flip flops. And I do take pride in how I look. ;)

I'm guessing that you and your DH are pretty slim people, since you don't understand the talk about chafing and since even just your foot bones can handle wearing jellies and kitten heels. (Ok the shoe part doesn't include DH, LOL) And I assume that nature or perhaps where you are from allows you to wear nicer clothes without totally sweating through them.

That's not many people. I might have lost some weight and now don't have to worry about chafing (though there are plenty of smaller people who still do chafe...just the nature of how an individual's body is put together!) but I have always been a "sweater", so I'm not going to wear a nice dress, etc, for a full day in the park.

I now tend to wear simple shorts from Old Navy (not workout shorts...I wouldn't wear these shorts to the gym), my nice running shoes (I don't understand how wearing those shoes makes me look bad?), wicking socks, and a simple shirt. I do tend towards really "loud" colors, which isn't everyone's style, but the clothes themselves don't look bad.

But I, by the end of the day, don't look awesome. I'm not generally posing for pictures at the end of a long, sweaty, day. :)

Also know that wicking underclothes don't come in unlimited sizes. Before my WW success I wouldn't have known where to find them, and wouldn't have wanted to buy them. So the days that I did wear a sundress I was also wearing some sort of normal shorts, which didn't help the heat or chafing at all.

I think that your feelings are very much a product of your own personal body-type, and I think it's nice to put ourselves into the shoes of other people, and it can help us be more understanding as to why some people aren't dressing the way you want to dress.

And remember that in the early days of, especially, Disneyland, people weren't spending 10-12 hours in the parks. It was a few hours and then home/hotel.

By the way, you should check out Dapper Days out at Disneyland. Might be something you would really enjoy!

Honestly, I'm still laughing at myself of saying moisture licking...why you shouldn't be on the boards in the car... but if moisture licking becomes available even in shorts and a tshirt, I'm there! Heck, I'd wear jorts for that!

We are slim but not skinny people! I've been on multiple trips with my very fit mom (probably more fit than me!) and my best friend; they are a size 12 and 16 respectively, although my bestie is 6'1 so that explains some of it:) and they wear very similar clothing - cheap poplin cotton sundresses (some we've made or modified to add pockets to together!) and moisture wicking (not licking! but LOL) boy shorts. That's the best for me in terms of comfort. When shorts get wet, boy howdy, they take way longer to dry out than my regular park outfit and it takes up less room in the overhead! I find flats and flat sandals way more comfortable than sneakers, although I go in hot times of the year and I'm sure that impacts it. I find wet sneakers to be the WORST - they make for blistery, STINKY (or maybe that's me) park shoes. I was just offering the OP a perspective. And I still love the way guys and gals dressed in the 60s and I adore your pics! My DH does almost wear a hat, open doors for everyone and is the last in elevator. Manners never go out of style! That said, I'm sorry if I came out...whatever, I was wanting to say that comfort didn't have to mean shorts and tshirt and if that came out crappy, it was not intended.

Thank you for turning me on to Dapper Days. Its something I would LOVE!

I haven't used them. Just wanted to say that Sketcher's Go Walk are really comfortable for long walks, and they're pretty cute.

I'm another fan of the Go Walk shoes. I have problems with my heel, and these shoes worked really well for me.

I replied before, but after reading this again I went on zappos last night and placed an order for some new chacos and a pair of teva sandals. I wish I could wear cute ballet flats in the parks!

There is a new boat/deck style of the GoWalk, and they are so cute! I slipped them on just to see how they felt and immediately bought them. Come in khaki and navy--I got the navy. Check em out!! Hoping I can wear them when we go for spring break and leave my clunky running shoes in the room!!!

How are the GoWalks in the heat? I usually wear Crocs and Teva Mush's because my feet get so hot. The GoWalks look really comfy.

The GoWalks do get pretty hot. I have two pair of the sneaker-style ones, and one pair of the ballet flat style ones I linked on the first page. I wear the sneaker ones with no-show moisture wicking socks and they are totally fine in the heat.

I wear the flats without socks because... they look stupid with socks... and my feet do get HOT in them, even if I'm just sitting around at my work desk or something. But not at all unbearable. I haven't tried the flats in the parks yet but I don't think the heat would be a problem.

I normally wear my Chacos to the parks. I did buy some Sketcher Go Walks for this coming weekend. Mine are a boat type that slip on. I got them in black. I'm still taking my Chacs just in case I don't love the Sketchers. I feel like you can be comfy and cute no matter where you are.

Thanks! I can't really wear sneakers in the park because my feet get too hot so I wasn't sure about these.

Fo those of you that have a Famous Footwear nearby, I was there yesterday and they had lots of Sketchers Go Walks out for spring. Nordtrom Rack had some reef flip flops also.........

Just got my Reef flip flops from Amazon today. Love them! I got the heartbreaker in a pink and green snakeskin ( sounds weird but is very pretty and will match a lot). They have a two inch wedge so are a little dressy, but not too dressy to wear with shorts. They will be perfect for my casual sundresses and skirts. The soles are so cushiony, but surprisingly supportive. I'll be wearing them around the house to get ready for Disney. Thanks for the recommendation.

:thumbsup2 I am breaking in my second pair for my next trip, the brown snakeskins!

I'm glad I found this thread - it's something I thought about too. I do typically like to dress in something that I think I look good in. I'm one that doesn't wear sneakers with jeans because I hate it. I couldn't care less how other people dress at Disney though (or anywhere else).

I will be going in September so it will be hot, so I will definitely be wearing sundresses 99% of the time. I hate shorts most of the time, and I think it will be too hot for jeans much of the time.

I don't think just because someone wants to look nice necessarily means they will end up with blisters/hurting feet though. I dress similarly to how someone else said with sundresses and boyshort type underclothes. Other than sneakers for running I've never really worn flats, so thanks for the suggestions!
