:thumbsup2 I've got a 'cool' 14 year old daughter that refuses to wear her tennis shoes with her capri length pants while walking all over 'the world' next month. (Gross, Mom! They look stupid!!) She wants to wear flip-flops!! Being the totally uncool Mom, I say NO--you'll get blisters and wear your feet out too quickly. Any fashion conscious people out there that has an answer to our footwear problem? :confused3

Step DD was 16 when we went last time and she insisted on wearing flip flops. Same response as your daughter. It was our first day at the parks and we went to AK, she never wore them again except to the pool or the water park. Sometimes at that age I think you have to let them make their own mistakes. It wasn't a battle I really wanted to fight while on vacation and I decided she would figure it out or she was the type of person who was comfortable wearing flip flops for lots of walking.
Just make sure they are a pair she has worn for a while before going! My hubbies ex sent her with brand new ones that she had never worn before.

I did talk her into a Keds type shoe with no heel for our next trip. She seemed to feel they were acceptable to wear with her Capris. BTW she's 18 now.

Many thanks! I am reluctant to have to hear all the complaining once her blisters pop up, but like you, I really would rather save my energy for packing than arguing!!:lmao:

Crocks, huh? Hmmmmm.... I don't know if she would think that was stylish, but she already owns some, so it is worth a try! Thanks!!!!!!:goodvibes

This was me last summer, but honestly, both of my teen daughters wore flip flops the whole trip, and so did DD18's 2 friends, and they were all fine. Make her take a backup pair of tennis shoes and some moleskin and bandaids, but I wouldn't stress about it.

I guess my feet are a strange size, because I have never been able to find a pair of crocks that fit my feet--always too short or too big. Anyway, I never would have thought of crocks--since I don't like the pair I DID buy. I bet my kid thinks hers feel good, though. I can't wait to run it by her later when she comes home!

You could try ballet flats, too. They may not be much better than flip-flops, but at least her toes would be covered up and it's more like a real "shoe." They sell some comfortable cute ones at Payless Shoesource (I actually have three pairs in different colors).

My 19 year old daughter wore her flip flops most of the days that we were there last week. She wore "good" leather flip flops (the kind with instep support). She didn't have any trouble with them at all.

Yikes. I wouldn't wear flats. I wear flats like, everyday to school and my feet don't feel exactly peachy at the end of the day.

So do I, that's why I recommended them. :) I think they are comfy. I also think she would have to find the right pair. A bad pair of flats can lead to the "I'd-rather-walk-on-my-hands" feeling.

I understand your concern, but she may be comfortable in flip flops. I am a die hard flip flopper. I wear flips flops everyday in the parks. If I could go barefoot I would! When I wear sneakers my feet swell and I feel like they are being squeezed to death! I can see your point as a Mom but she is 14, if her feet hurt I am sure she'll put something else on. I hope you find a solution that works for both of you!princess:

I wore my fake Crocs flip flops from Payless last summer and they were AWESOME!

I always got blisters badly in the past but no problems this time. I also used a lot of foot products - powder, cream, soak in foot bath. Just don't use the bodyglide or she'll slide right out of her shoes!

I was never a flip flop person until the last trip. My shoes got soaking we when we were caught in crazy downpour. I stopped in and bought a pair at the Boardwalk gift shop. I ended up wearing them all over. I don't think I could do the whole trip in them, but they were a nice change up from the confinement of shoes.

I always had a problem with trying to find cute stylish shoes to wear at WDW, and last trip I wore the crocs flip flops the WHOLE time. They felt great and still looked trendy.

Yes, I should clarify that my girls were all wearing Rainbows, not the plastic summer kind of flip flop.

I'm 48 and I wear either my Merrell or Croc flip flops or my Mephisto sandals on every trip. My legs never tire and my feet don't hurt. I refuse to wear tennis shoes on my WDW trips. Those shoes have given me terrible blisters!

I swear by my Keen shoes, 2 pair of sandals and regular shoes. They are great for my flat feet. Kind of dorky looking but I can walk all day in them. I have been thinking of trying some Mephistos for a change.
