It has been 15 years since my husband and I last visited WDW. We loved the waterparks. I can't remember if we wore flip flops, or water shoes. What types of shoes do most people wear? I am afraid if I wear flip flops, I will lose them on a slide or in the water. We are going at the end of May, so I also worry that the pavement will be too hot not to wear shoes. Thanks for any advice. :)

We went at the end of May.

Everyone on the disboards insisted that we needed water shoes, so I bought them. They were a huge waste of money. We only wore them for about 10 minutes before we couldn't stand them because they were filled with sand. Contrary to what everyone said, the pavement wasn't hot and it was much more comfortable to walk around barefoot.

If you're going to wear shoes, I recommend flip flops.

I have a pair of water shoes, you are advised to wear them due to the hot floor. However depending on what time of year you are going you may find the floor bearable. We went in May and some days didn't need them and others we did.

The first year we visited Typhoon Lagoon we were told to take the shoes off before riding most of the attractions, so it was a pain to keep putting them on and off again. However in recent years CMs have been happy to let people carry on wearing them. If you don't want to buy any water shoes (we only need them for our trips to disney so it could be seen as a waste of money) and you already own flip flops then maybe stick with the flip flops.

We always wear water shoes. Most of the time we have not had to remove them when riding, but on certain rides they will make you and you just have to hold them in your hand. We prefer to wear them because it just seems kind of gross to walk around barefoot, especially when you have to go into the bathrooms. Also, my husband is pretty tenderfooted, so walking around on the rough pavement bothers him.

I always wear my water shoes. I already own them, so it is an easy decision. But I wouldn't go out and buy a pair just for this purpose.

We are there just about every weekend and we never wear shoes. Wear some flip flops to walk from parking lot to entrance but after that we just go barefoot. Works out great.

I always wear water shoes to any water park - I hate going barefoot anywhere. But, plenty of people don't wear any shoes at the water parks and they're fine. It's all a personal preference.

I like wearing my water shoes. In the summer the concrete can be hot if you stay much past noon. There are some attractions that you cannot wear them on. I take them off and hold them as I slide down.

My wife and kids prefer flip flops.

I never had an issue with the pavement being hot at BB. In the most recent times that I went, they had the little sprinklers next to the pavement turned on. I don't know if they're for rinsing sand off your feet or for cooling the pavement, but they did both for us.

We never wear watershoes at the water parks but we are native Floridians who almost never wear shoes, period.

We brought flops, didnt need them

My daughter's foot had an pretty bad cut/abrasion from the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon. The combination of the current and the rough pool floor make for a dangerous combination. We were not the only ones in line for treatment at the first aid station.

My husband took a chunk out of his foot during a surf lesson at typhoon lagoon. It was a pretty nasty wound and he gimped around for the rest of our vacation and it took months to heal. I was surprised it was possible to get an injury like that there, he probably scraped/cut out a 3" square section of his heel/side of his foot.

I bought a pair of Adidas climacool boat lace shoes, I wore them to the park and then took them off and walked around barefoot. I just found it easier that way. I thought I would use them, but I've been twice to the water parks and both times I simply took them off. I suppose I still like having the OPTION to wear them though.......

Agreed. We bought water shoes to wear to Typhoon Lagoon in August. We never wore them. The pavement just wasn't that hot.

At my local water park, they picked a less than ideal pavement, and it gets scorching hot. I wear water shoes there. WDW is kind of a toss up. The wave pool at TL definitely has the potential to scrape up your feet. The concrete isn't that bad because Disney is pretty good about shade and even using sprinklers to keep the paths cooler. It is nice to have shoes for the bathrooms, though. I wouldn't want to wear flip flops around the park. I'd wear them in and then throw them in a locker. They're too much of a hassle to me. If you're in the lazy river or wave pool you'll have to hold them to keep them from floating away.

We went in late July of last year... we didn't wear any shoes. They have misters that wet the pavement and that helps keep it from burning feet :)

Laughing bcc my son and I have been in that line! Had matching boo-boos on our elbows. My advice for typhoon lagoon wave pool...get out as far as you can it is much more pleasant the deeper you get.

I always wear Keen Whispers anywhere I go at DW, and they're great for the water parks. Very comfortable, and they dry fast.
