OK. My son needs a pair of Adidas slides for gymnastics. He is 9 and wears a size 4. The only pairs I can find on sale are men's. I know that girl's sizes skip around (a girl's 5 is the same as a woman's 7) anyone know how it works in men's?

The smallest I can find is a men's 7. I'm sure they'll be big, but he only needs them to get up and down off the podium. :) Anyone have a pair of men's size 7 they can measure for me? Will they be HUGE?

Thanks!

I wear a 7- 7 1/2 in women's and I can fit in my son's shoes. He wears a 7 in men's. I remember when I was younger and would buy boy's basketball shoes to wear, it seemed like two sizes smaller would fit (girls to boys).

I could be wrong but I believe that Men's sizes run right on up through children's sizes. So if children's sizes run until size 6, men's 7 would be the next size up from that. I think they will be too big for him.

It says that a men's size 7 measures 25 centimeters and a child's size 4 measures 22 centimeters.

3cm for slides that he needs to wear for 1/2hr 8-9x probably isn't that big a deal to save the $10.

Where did you find that sizing info?

I wear an 8 1/2 women's shoe, but a 7 1/2 men's sneaker if that helps at all.

Yes, I think this is about right. When DD grew out of kids's sizes, she went from a 5 kids to a 7 women's. For her soccer shoes, she wears an 8 women's but can wear a 6 men's. I know for Crocs, the men's 5 equals a women's 7, and I think it is the next size up from a kids' 4.

FWIW, OP, my DD7 wears a size 3/4 but sometimes wears her sister's old flip flops that are a 5/6. It's probably no big deal for slide shoes if he doesn't need to be running in them, but I wouldn't try it for sneakers or dress shoes.

Men's sizes are 2 numbers smaller than women's, so a men's 7 is a woman's 9.
The boys sizes do progress directly into men's sizes with no change in the way that the sizing is measured, but the catch is that most mfrs. start men's sizing at 7 but stop boy's sizing at 5. So ... what do you do with a kid that is in the middle if the brand doesn't make that size? You buy women's size 7.5 through 8.5. Every boy I know who has hit that size has had to wear women's shoes for a couple of months.

If you have a Famous Footwear nearby, they do usually have the boys sizes in the slides, because Adidas is one of the few makers that does not have a sizing gap between boys and men. These slides don't get marked down that often for exactly the reason you are looking for them -- they are popular with swim teams.

FF didn't have any.. Dick's did but they were $20. JCP has the 7's for $20 but there is a $10 coupon. No kid sizes available.

He just needs them to walk from the competition floor to the award ceremony and have them on during awards. (I wouldn't let him do anything else in them anyway 'cause they have to stay looking nice.) I'll probably get them to try and I can always take them back. I'm just having trouble spending $20 for something he won't wear much, and are just a glorified flip-flop. (He needs these though 'cause he'll have socks on.)

Never thought about the "no size 6" issue.. although I do remember having trouble finding shoes for DD when she was about a kids 4.

Does it have to be Adidas? K-Mart has their house-brand version in plain black for $4.

Addidas does make kids slides. We found them in the fall for our soccer kids so they aren't wearing their cleats on the cement as that can cause uneven wear.
