I have problems with the bottom of my heel. Starts to hurt after walking for an hour or so. ( i haven't seen a doc yet.) Was at local sporting good store and seen -- heel inserts made in gel.

Has anyone used these before???????????? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking of getting some for my nike walking shoes. my second pair of shoes for the trip are my crocs. which i love.

I had the same issue with my feet, and when I went to a podiatrist he told me it was plantar fascitis. I got arch supports, (rather than a heel support)and they do seem to help. He also recommended freezing a small water bottle and rolling your arches on the frozen bottle. (This helps to reduce the inflamation in your arches, and that is what causes the heel pain)

Not sure if this is what you have or not, but I have found that a shoes with a really good arch support (no flip flops, tennis shoes or barefeet) and doing the frozen water bottle thing. I'm a veterinary nurse, and this is what gets me through a long day on my feet.

Hope this helps

Sorry I don't know about the gel things but I bet they'd feel soothing. The ice rolling sounds wonderful too!

I was also diagnosed with plantar fasc and was told how to excercise my feet to help it. That didn't work. What finally did was moving to Hawaii and wearing only flip flops. Turns out they excercised my feet so well I can now wear any shoes with no problems. The flip-flops I have and continue to buy are by Scott's and sold at Wal-mart and K-mart stores in HI. Not sure where else or if you are even interested but you can look online. Wait, I found them. Go to surf wear hawaii dot com and then click the link for Scott under Guy Wear (the wahine ones are more for looks but the guys are better and what we all - men and women - wore. I have the Makaha ones in black (my work/play slippahs) and in blue (my dress slippahs). They are soft and spongy and have an arch so my feet didn't hurt to wear them and I'm guessing using my muscles in my feet to keep them on when I walk excercised away my P.F.

Oh, I also have worn crocs for about 3 years (still have my original pair from a road side stand in Kona) and they have never hurt my heels; they are squishy on the bottom too.

Anyway, good luck to you. If what you have is P.F., it can certainly improve and go away cause mine did :goodvibes

iv had one of those gell heel inserts, it also gave arch support. I would look for one that gave arch support also. I loved the insert. i bought a pair of lofers that had no support at all and i need the insert. I would suggest walking around with the insert in your shoes for a few days before getting comfortable with them. For a few days it may feel like you have something in your shoe.
