I recieved my new Brooks Mach 10 shoes in the mail yesterday and tried them out this morning. They are actually a cross country shoe and come in either spiked or spikeless versions. The spikeless one meets a lot of the criteria for a walking/racewalking shoe.

The shoe is a little stiffer than I like and the Brooks rep said it would be. But it's good points far outweighed that minor concern. It's no stiffer than most of the trainers out there.
The shoe is nice and roomy in the toe area, that is very important because you need to be able to get a good push off with the toes. You also want room for you toes after your feet heat up and swell. That is important for keeping your circulation going during a race and not getting "Numb" toes.
The heel is low so you don't have to overcome it during your heel roll, it goes very smoothly. The higher the heel the more energy you have to use going up and down. A runner lands harder on the heel and needs the padding, us walkers do not.
The shoe is also low around the ankle bones. That is a biggy for anyone, like me, who trains on the roads. Most roads are slanted for drainage and that slant puts extra pressure, from the shoe side, on the ankle bone that is on the uphill side.
I'm going to email Brooks and let them know that I like the shoe but will let them know that a more flexiable sole would be nice. It is certainly a good product.
The price is excellent and remember we get a discount from runningwarehouse.com with our WISHD code. So if you are thinking about a shoe to use as your racer instead of your heavy trainers it's worth a look. In the price range it's easily a top pick.
