Shoe attack on president

Yes the shoe was thrown at Bush, but it was also sent as a message to America. Outside that meeting, people in support of that [shoe] guy were burning American flags.

That's directed towards YOU and ME.

Because the American people have never done anything like that. We're the righteous ones. The guiders. The leaders. We'd never insinuate that we wished ill upon another country. No. WE just want to make THEM like us.

I can tell your being pretty nasty/sarcastic, and I won't even respond.

I can tell your being pretty nasty/sarcastic, and I won't even respond.

Sorry if I seem too sarcastic.

I just feel like there's a huge double standard going on here.

It's like....the second somebody attacks (verbally or otherwise) an American citizen (regardless of political standing/rank) we automatically get outraged.

But what about all the innocents that we've attacked? During the Vietnam war, roughly 50,000 American soldiers were killed. We were appalled at the idea that the Vietnamese killed 50,000 of us. But we killed 1,300,000 of them. Most of the Vietnamese don't hold a grudge against us today. But some people in the US still detest the Vietnamese because one of their buddies got killed in Vietnam.

Right now in Iraq, the US death toll is hovering around 4000. The Iraqi civilian death toll is estimated to be between 89,892 and 98,151. Yet, every time an American soldier dies over there, it's just more reason to continue the war for us. Yet, we've killed anywhere from 22.5 to 24.5 times more of them.

To me, it's almost like there's a list of things that nobody in the world is allowed to do but us.

I'm just going to go out and say, that I dislike Bush A LOT.
I do think it was funny, but it was disrespectful as well.
The fact that Bush decided to extend the war for three more years, pissed me off as much as it seemed to piss off the guy who threw the shoes...
I mean I don't think he yelled " It ends now." Or whatever they had on the report that he yelled. I'm all for the war ending now, I hate not knowing if my friend over there is still alive.

In response to Axel about how many civilians we've killed, I read a book about Iraq recently, and it seems that by late 2007, the toll has gone up to about one million.
"In late 2004 a group reported that in the first 14 months into the war, nearly 100,000 Iraqi civilians (7000 per month) had died violently, 600,000 in 2006 and nearly one million in late 2007."
It's basically the quote from the book except I reworded it a little for a project.

I know what you mean about the disrespect. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of Obama, I still have to respect him because he is the president-elect.

I also noticed how fast the door behind the two opened and people came pouring out. Even if it is a little disrespectful, there is still a bit funny.

Oh yeh, Iraq was much better under SODOM Hussein. Where his sons Udha and Sudha kidnapped newlyweds - raped the bride tortured the husband and fed them to their pet lions. Or all the poor Kurs( I guess they were better off too) especially the thousands of them that were gassed by SODOM Hussein. Or the people that were tortured for days with electircal prods and wires- I guess they were better off also. What do you think would happen to a man that threw a shoe at SODOM Hussein? I thank God everyday that I am an American and proud of it.

I might think you knew what you were talking about if you could spell. Yeah. Saddam (S-A-D-D-A-M) wasn't great. But you know who put him in power? Us. Yeah. Us. He's a left-over from the Cold War. It's OUR fault he and his sons got to do those things.

And it's Kurds, by the way. K-U-R-D-S.

You still shock me at how rude you can be.

I'm pretty sure those statistics are correct. I last heard the figure was in the hundreds of thousands.

My initial response was to laugh hysterically, mostly at how good Bush's reflexes are! But of course I also think it is disrespective. I do not support the current President at all, but there's a line, ya know? This guy was a radical, so there's no point in trying to analyze why he did what he did.

That's just my opinion.

I completely agree with Axel.

And I wonder if anybody would be upset if someone threw a shoe at Hitler.

Is Bush Hitler?

One could argue that he's similar.

They both orchestrated an impressive feat of mass paranoia in the countries they ruled directed towards a religious group.

They both tortured prisoners (that's Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, in case you're wondering).

They both took advantage of a situation left over from a previous war.

So yeah, there's some commonalities. Not enough to really say that Bush=Hitler, but enough to show that they're similar.

Oh please! Not even!

I'm not even going to try to get into the major details of your incredibly immature comment, but I have a question for you.

Do you see people fearing Bush for their lives like people did Hitler?

I don't believe that his post was immature at all. Axel stated that some may believe that Bush and Hitler are similar in some aspects and I'd have to agree with him on that.

When Hitler was in power, people were terrified of those who were Jewish. They believed them to be these evil people that could do horrible things at any moment.

Many people believe the same now with Muslims. I can't even began to tell you how many people I've seen calling Muslims terrorists and just being down right nasty to them for no reason, when...in reality...only a handful had a role in what happened during 9/11.

Now, do I believe that Bush is Hitler? No. He doesn't have concentration camps all over the place with a top goal of eliminating a whole group of people. I do know, however, that many people believe that Bush used the attacks as an 'excuse' to go into Iraq and 'finish the job' of his father and that because of the attacks, many people are treating many Muslims as criminals.

I had never heard of him torturing prisoners, so I can't comment on that, but if he did I highly doubt too many people would really freak out about it right now like they did over Holocaust. One being because people didn't even truly realize what was going on during WW2 until it was over and Two being because....many probably believe that there is a good reason behind the torturing.

True.

BTW, Axel is a girl.

Thanks for pointing out what I mentioned about how Bush=/=Hitler. I guess that part got missed the first time around. It's nice to know that I'm not going insane because I have a different set of beliefs.

As for prison torture, Bush didn't order it outright, but he's done nothing to stop it. Abu Ghraib pictures (note: THESE ARE NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART) and An article on the situation. As for the situation at Guantanamo Bay (aka: GTMO or "Gitmo), read for yourself.

And PS: I'm a girl. ;)
