I was just browsing the TPaA (Theme Park and Attractions) Board and came across this in a thread about comparing DL and WDW rides:

Pirates at DL is a lot longer. At WDW there is also only one hill. I like the WDW version better. My sister and I were bored with Pirates at DL. It was way too long. And we didn't like the parts where you are just floating there with nothing to see.

:scared1:

It was just so surprising that I thought I'd share it with the DLR board. ;)

I do like parts of the WDW queue better. But the ride is much better at DL.

Well, it is no surprise the world is not a unanimous place. A few months ago I saw someone say they liked Space Mtn at MK better than the refurbed one at DL. I was equally surprised. :confused3

As a life-long WDW person (been there more 20 times) whose first trip to DL was a week ago, all I can say is :rotfl:

Rides in common and which is better:

Disneyland Railroad: Disneyland
AstroOrbitor: WDW (just because of where it is)
Autopia/Indy Speedway: Disneyland
Buzz Lightyear: Disneyland
HIStA: Equal
Space Mountain: Disneyland
Star Tours: Equal
Dumbo: Equal
Small World: Disneyland
Carousel: Equal
Tea Party: WDW (covered so not closed in rain)
Peter Pan: WDW
Snow White: about the same
Big Thunder: WDW
Tikis: Disneyland
Jungle Cruise: WDW (indoor temple is better)
Haunted Mansion: WDW
Pirates: Disneyland
Splash: WDW (the Disneyland logs are torture devices)
Winnie the Pooh: Disneyland
Soarin': Equal but better themeing at CA
Toy Story: Equal
Tower of Terror: WDW
Muppet Vision: Equal
Tough to be a Bug: Equal, but the queue is way better at WDW

All just my opinions of course.

LOL, I read that too. The "just floating there with nothing to see" part was particularly amusing. Ummm.....:confused3

Oh well. Different strokes for different folks. Some people get bored more easily, I guess. :)

Reminds me of the time that we went to WDW and took an 11-year old family member. It was his first time at a Disney park.

After riding Splash Mtn, we asked him how he liked it. He replied that it was fun except for all those annoying characters on the ride. :scared1: :sad2:

As a life long DLR person ;) I would pretty much agree with you all the way. Interestingly I would vote Mad Tea Party better at DL because it is not covered.

This is a new one on me too!

We went to WDW in January and went on Pirates and my older boys said, "Can we just go back to California already, their Pirate ride is SO much better!"

I'd probably agree with you, except the only time I went to Disneyland (so far!) it rained, so no tea cups for me! :( I know, it doesn't rain that often, I just got lucky! Not complaining, it kept the crowds away!

I can't imagine wanting POTC to end sooner! Even if there was "nothing to look at" (did they have their eyes closed? :lmao: ) just the sounds and smells are enough. :lovestruc

In all my life I have never been to DLR in the rain! On my two trips to WDW it rained a lot.

I've read the entire thread and just giggled inside to myself. Everyone has different likes and I really believe sometimes it's what you first experience or are used to. Me, myself, I'm a DL convert, love love love it and am just so taken by it's charm, (shhh!)
I love my trips to WDW but find myself missing especially The Magic Kingom in DLR. I really got confused on my last trip to WDW...I went to the ladies room in Fantasyland close to the teacups....I was TRULY disoriented for a moment...when I walked in I was like, "where is the Queen of Hearts bathroom?? Where are the hearts??? Lol, I thought I had walked into the men's room for a moment! (never having seen the men's bathroom at DL)
Then I realized ohhh, that's DL...with a little bit of disappointment. Funny how a bathroom will make you feel that way! It's the details!

Yeah, I'm a DL convert myself. I'll take Disneyland Park over any other single park in the world. There are individual rides and things I like better about the Magic Kingdom, but taken as a whole I definitely prefer DL. I actually loved how it was laid out, and I thought I'd prefer the wide-open (relatively speaking) spaces of the Magic Kingdom. I think as far as shared rides its mostly a wash numbers wise. For every attraction that's better in FL there's an attraction that's better at DL. But having a better PotC and Space Mountain count for a lot!

By the way, am I the only who HATES the logs on Splash Mountain in CA? I like the single-file deal, its scarier going down the flumes, but those back rests just about did me in on the lift hills. Sheesh!

I'm glad you quoted that post. I was participating in that thread as I just returned from my first WDW trip (a lifelong DL fan). I was stunned by that comment as well.

For me, it isn't POTC if you don't have the man in the rocking chair and the people eating at BB!

I wonder what parts they were talking about where there was "nothing to see". :confused3 That ride is so packed with things to look at I can't imagine feeling like there was nothing to look at.

Just for fun, I'll disagree with a couple of these...cause, you know it's Presidents Day and I have nothing better to do.

Rides in common and which is better:

Star Tours: Equal Yes, but I love the queing at the Studios. It's just alot of fun
Dumbo: Equal Equal, yes, but Dubo at night in Disneyland is something special to be had
Tea Party: WDW (covered so not closed in rain)I like it better at DL beause it's not covered, there is just something magical about the teacups at night. Plus, if you go on Alice first, you get to continue the story with your unbirthday at the teacups.
Peter Pan: WDW I have to say DL on that one. Ideally I'd like the combined of course, more swooping in and out to get the Near--Far effect
Pirates: Disneyland but it's just sooooo long!!! jk
Splash: WDW (the Disneyland logs are torture devices) totally agree
Tough to be a Bug: Equal, but the queue is way better at WDW we always get passed by a million people in line at WDW because we're so into the carvings

All just my opinions of course.

Funnily enough, never ridden Dumbo at DL at night (or at all I guess) but my daughter and I were riding Dumbo at WDW last month during Wishes. We were on for the finale, and that was just an amazing experience!

Peter Pan at WDW gets the vote for me simply because of the London nightscape...the cars moving around and everything is just so much neater at WDW.

Going back to the OP, I think the comment about liking the WDW PotC better than DL is just as ridiculous (to me of course) as the couple of people I've seen say they like ToT better at DL because it DOESN'T have random drops. The random drops push that ride from being great to being incredible.

MarsRunner- I agree with most of your comparissons but I have to say that both HM's have something to offer. I think that I would call them equal, in the fact that both have added features the other doesn't and enough similar to also make them equal. This is coming from a HUGE HM fan.

I have to say coming in the front door is cooler at DLR then the back entrance at WDW.

And for who ever thought POTC WDW was better thats cool, it just means one less person in line at DL's!
