We (me too) are all so afraid of calling out someone's outrageous behavior that we just allow it. Not called out, it gets worse.
We have a home in a gated community and I'm on the board. Last week one of our residents stopped a builder's employee coming in and yelled at him for "wrecking the gate and the roads". Audio/video recording of the event shows that the driver did nothing wrong, did not touch the gate, and verified the owner's outburst. It's not the first time for that owner with outbursts to other owners, our manager and our caretaker. I wanted to write the owner a violation letter telling him his behavior is unacceptable. Other board members don't want to further inflame him. I think he's gone round the bend and we could be liable if he does something that physically harms someone.
We are so afraid of being called racist (even if everyone involved is that same race), or called elitist (even if everyone involved is of similar status), or of making someone mad - or ...of getting shot. It enables them.
