We got back on friday after 5 wonderful days but I just couldn't get over how dear things were. I know the exchange rate didn't help but the souvenirs just seemed really dear. A few things i noticed were the princess dresses were E60 and in Florida they were $60 so a big difference, also the teddies seemed to be the same price in euros as dollars which makes them very dear. Also some starwars toys were E11 and my son was buying the same ones in florida for $6 so last year that was only £3. Yes things in Florida will be slightly dearer now as that exchange rate has gone down too but I really was shocked over how much everything cost in DLP and I was glad that I didn't have any kids with me.
Iwas expecting to pay dear for the food and drink but I honestly wasn't expecting the gifts to be so dear, maybe I have just been spoilt by WDW

We were shocked at how expensive things were too!!
The oufits in particular, we were lucky in that we took some dress up outfits with us, so the kids didn't even bother them.
However, this is the only down side to DLP, and we had such a fantastic time that it was worth every penny we spent.
We are going again in September so we know what to expect and will save up accordingly. I don't spending the money for such a fantastic holiday!!

We are going to Florida Disney next year ( when DS is 4 ), and I know things won't be as expensive, so I am looking forward to that!!

Forgot to add that my kids saved up £70 each, so I suppose we weren't as bothered, because it was their own money they were spending!!

Also this time round we aren't fetching back souveniers, as that cost a lot of money. We have a big family so they have been for-warned.

I havent been for a few years (I go in March) but went to America last year and the exchange rate was so good that I feel everything in DLP this year is going to be so expensive.

Having been to WDW and DLP in the past I have always found WDW slightly cheaper anyway, but with the prices you have stated, its more expensive than it ever has been before. I guess though this is partly down to the poor exchange rate. Hopefully the money situation wont ruin our trip though.

It certainly didn't ruin our trip and we were lucky in that we weren't buying much anyway as it was a bonus trip for us but I certainly wouldn't fancy taking my kids at the current exchange rate.

I do agree that compared to America park souvenir prices, DLRP is expensive. And the prices would come as a shock to first time visitors to DLRP - I'm always shocked at the price costumes cost there!

Thing is though, the actual price of the souvenirs, in euros, hasn't gone up much at all since I started going to DLRP in Feb 2007. Its the exchange rate thats hit hard, ie on my first visit, the pound got you around 1.4 euros, now its nearer 1.05 ish. That makes a big difference.

We don't go mad on bringing home souvenirs (I think we brought some home our first visit, and DD has bought some things for her school friends). I'd be very surprised if we've spent more than about 50 euros on souvenirs, even on our pressie-buying trips.

I always buy DD's Disney costumes before we go - ebay is great for them :) .

You can find souvenirs for little money at DLRP - it does cater for the pocket money market as well as the adult blank cheque ;)

I was shocked at the price of the princess dresses, basically £55 for a dress - eeeeeek!!! We didn't go mad on souveniers for the exact reason that they were so expensive! Bought some pins at E6 each, which wasn't too bad, but we got some from the Disney Store here yesterday for £3 each, so double the price at DLRP!

Hi,

Isn't America always cheaper!? The cost of items in DLRP is down to the exchange rate! Don't you expect Disney to be expensive in the first place? I know I did when we first went and wasn't surprised by the prices! The thing to remember it is all based on the Euro and not the pound and thus the perception of how costly items are is based on those visitors from countries who have adopted the euro.

After all that it is a huge disappoint to find the rate so poor when I can remember getting nearly 1.50 Euro to the pound on the credit card exchange rate!

Rgds

I'm lucky as I get shareholders discount so that helps. I really only buy merchandise exclusive to the park as I know I can't get it cheaper. If its just standard soft toys then I will get them in the UK as it is cheaper. I really only buy pins now anyway or a little treat for my niece & nephew.

We also said how expensive it was although i manage to buy a jacket with Tower of terror on it for 11 euros (ok it was a kids jacket) but i was so chuffed it fitted me.
We paid 86 euros for Billy bobs tuesday night but we knew that food was going to be expensive.

We have also just returned and noticed how expensive everything was. Hopefully the exchange rate will pick up before we are back in April.

Was that a black one with a red fleece lining. It has "I survived the Tower of Terror" on the back?

We bought 2 for our children in October for the same price.

we are going in october and im saving up towards the spends, as i think its a bit expensive

am going to average around 15 euros for lunch , 30 euros for dinner , and 15 euros a day for snacks/drinks
and then we will see whats left at the end for merchandise

i totally agree i wanted a tin of biscuits or chocolates to bring back for presnet for family but they were about 7.90E for a box of 8 short bread biscuits

It is a lot more expensive than when we last went, a cocktail for DD cost 6.50E in 2007 now cost 10E and a pack of pens I got on our last trip had gone up 3E. It cost 8Euros for a beer!!

Yes 8E for a beer is awful. We went into the bar on our 1st night and that was the only night after that we bought a few cans from the shop in the station, 1.90E seemed a lot more reasonable

I think the exchange rate is definitely making prices seem higher, even without the apparent increases. I always figure that Europe is generally more expensive than the US anyway but I think some of the prices at DLP are a little over the odds, food in particular.

To put things in perspective, the best the Euro has been is about 1.45 to the pound, the wife bought a Mug while we were there and it was 11,90. Thats nearly £8 at the best exchange rate, and over £11 at the moment. We ended up buying a few trinkets with our left over euros but it definitely isnt value for money.

I really think if they realisticaly set prices, they would sell more. I think the price of snacks in the pack is probably fair though, €2,50 for a bottle of coke would have been about £1.66, so not too much a mark up and other burgers and snacks seem to be about the price you would pay at a gig or sporting event.
