We (DSis) and I have booked this excursion at St. Maarten. We were reading Passporter which said that the excursion is enjoyable for experienced snorkelers. It is also listed as "active".

Has anyone done this excursion? Did you enjoy it? Could two overweight women do this who have snorkeled before (we just did a 2 hour high-energy hike yesterday, so we are physically active when we motivate ourselves :)). We don't want to get out there and find out this is something only Discovery Channel-type snorkelers can do.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

DH and I did this excursion last Nov. It was only the 2nd time I've ever been snorkling and it was fun. I wasn't in the best of shape then and the hardest part for me was getting back in the boat. The rear of the boat is lowered into the water and you have to be able to pull yourself out of the water back onto it. I just put my back to it and pushed myself up and flopped my butt onto the ledge. If you could handle the 2 hour power hike you shouldn't have any problem with this snorkle trip.

Once you get onboard the excursion boat they will ask if you are interested in doing "snuba". DH and I did this. It cost $40 extra and he enjoyed it a lot and would love to become scuba certified. I was terrified the entire time we were underwater, but I have to admit it was at the same time really cool. You go down 25 feet and I couldn't get my ears to pop and ended up with a bloody nose and clogged up ears for 2 weeks.

some friends of mine did this excursion a few years ago...while they enjoyed it, she got seasick b/c there is NO landfall from the time you leave DCL until you get back. Other excursions come close to land, and you can feel tera firma if you need, but this is 100% water. The snorkeling was good, but you're bobbing up and down even when snorkeling, so not great for those who might be prone to motion sickness.

bumping to hear any other comments regarding this excursion. Is this company certified by snuba to offer snuba? Any thoughts in general?
