Ships in Port?

Next month, DS (age 9) and I will be traveling from WDW to NASA. I'll love to plan the trip on a day when one of the Disney trips will be in port.

Is there a standard set of days of the week when this is possible?

Is it worth getting out of the car (will security allow us inside the building without tickets - I know we cannot go on board)?

If anyone knows of a great seafood restaurant nearby, please help!

Any other ideas from you well-seasoned cruisers?

The Magic sails Saturdays, the Wonder on Thursdays and Sundays, so these are the three days when one of the ships will be in port. The arrive early morning and depart around 5:00pm, after taking on a new load of passengers (and food...).

I do not think they'll let you in the terminal without tickets. I believe they have changed security measures fairly recently. It's probably worth getting out of the car, anyway, as you can still see most of the ship. It's much, much bigger than the terminal building.

Sorry, I can't help with the seafood restaurant.

They will not let you NEAR the terminal without tickets that match your ID - they check these as you pull in to the drop-off area.

You can watch the ship leaving port by driving down alongside the channel before it gets to the open sea. There is a bar and a small marina where you can get out and wave as the ship sails by. There is also a small park further along the channel as the ship reaches open sea. We did this last year on a Saturday. We could only bear to do it because we were sailing on the Wonder on the Sunday, otherwise it would be unbearable to watch the ship sailing without us. LOL.

As Disneykins stated there is a great place to watch the ships leave. It is called Jetty Park, here is a link to their web page

It is located at the end of the channel that the ships sail from. It is really a great view as the ships sail past. Great photo location. As for a seafood resturant near by, I am not to sure on that one either as Port Canaveral is mostly industrial. Have fun :)
