OK Weird question- Has a Disney Cruise ever had to stay out to sea for weather problems or whatever? Someone told me that their 7 day cruise turned into a 16 day adventure is there any light to this story?

Well, not nearly as crazy as that, but last August we were sidelined by Fay 0 which stalled off the coast of canaveral - had to dock at Port Everglades.

Back in September 2005 the Magic had to stay out longer than the 7 day intinerary due to hurricane issues. In fact, I believe they diverted to Galveston to refuel. We were supposed to be on the cruise following that one but cancelled when our cruise kept getting shortened.

Craziness!

Yes, that cruise in 2005 turned into a 10 day cruise. There have never been any 7 day cruises that turned into a 16 day cruise on DCL. The captain will make changes to the itinerary due to weather including but not limited to hurricanes. These can result in a new port or a sea day if a new port is not available. Grand Cayman has been missed due to the fact that the the water was too rough for the tenders to safely make it out and back to the ship since you can't dock there.

2005 was a crazy year. Our cruise was cut short by a day and we were let off at port on Friday instead of Saturday for they could take the ship north to get away from Hurricane Jeanne. I think a lot of the sailings were messed up that year because of hurricanes. I am not sure if there has been another hurricane season like that one since, but it was crazy. That was our last time sailing in Sept. We have gone to March now and haven't had any problems.

We ended up rescheduling that September 2005 Magic cruise to a January 2006 one instead. We went to WDW that September 05 and ended up visiting in between hurricanes. Boy was the World quiet that year!

We were on the cruise following CRSN. The 7 day cruise became a 4 day cruise because after the captain came into Port Canaveral on Friday and dropped off the passengers, the ship and crew went to a safe area of the ocean and spent Sat - Monday cleaning the ship. We were put on a bus and taken to Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. The Magic wasn't allowed into the full port for a while because ships with passengers had priority....we finally got on board about 9 and the ship sailed early on Tuesday morning. Yes, DCL did compensate us.

As above, there has never been a 7 day that turned into a 16 day. There was a 7 day that turned into a 10 day. Passengers did have the ability to get off the ship at Galveston, but were on their own to get home if they chose that option.
