We're going to WDW 9/1-9/6 and are thinking of shipping somethings down so they're at our resort (ASMovies) ahead of time. It will be me, DH, DD (2.5), and DS (4 months), and I'd like to send down the extra diapers, wipes, and toiletries (especially since the new TSA rules were implemented).

How far in advance should we send it (we live in central PA), and what service seems the best (UPS, FedEX, USPS)? Do we just label the outside of the box w/our resort name & address, and our names? Any other info?

I'm actually curious about this too. We're using DME this time and were planning on taking some necessities on the plane with us because we know our luggage won't be immediately available. I guess we can pick it up ourselves but I'm not really sure I want to do that. That was part of the attraction of DME! lol

Otoh, it will be nice to have an excuse to pack light! :goodvibes

You can send it down a week prior to your trip or if you use priority mail I think it is 3-5 days. princess: I just use the post office. Put your name, resort reservation# and dates of stay on it in big letters. I also sent it with a signed confirmation so I knew that they received it.

We went to FW this summer and mailed an air conditioner down for us to use while camping----We were told to make sure when we send it that it doesn't arrive more than 3 days before we do---All you have to put on the box is the hotel name, your name and the address. We used the USPS and it was there for when we needed it (I mailed it on Monday and we arrived on Sunday)

I also printed out postage prior to leaving for the trip to return the items back home.

I always ship items down before every trip. It is better, IMHO, to use Fed Ex or UPS. When you ship with the post office, it will go to the post office in Orlando first and have to be sorted and delivered, which can take extra time. If you ship with Fed-Ex or UPS, it is a guarenteed delivery to the resort. I send it out 5 days ahead of time and request Fed Ex ground delivery and it has always been there when I arrive. Here is what you need to put on the box:

Your name- Guest
Resort name
Resort reservation #
Arrival date-please hold
address of resort

I have been thinking about shipping stuff down too. We will be there 9/2-9/9 and staying at ASMo. The address I got from this site is

Disney All Star Movies Resort
1991 W. Buena Vista Dr.
Lake Buena Vista, LF 32830

I have been wanting to call the hotel though and confirm the address.

Make sure you label your box "BABY ITEMS"

If you stay at a value or Mod resort they charge you a fee per pound to store your box. We use to stay at CSR and they always charged us, until one year CS told me to mark my baby box "BABY ITEMS". Then they did not charge me the fee.

Also, pack some tape and labels in your box. Your resort can ship your stuff home in the box.. It is a life saver for our souvys.....

Thanks for the tip about the Baby ITEMS label and packing tape and labels for returning things home. How does that work? Will the resort weigh the box and figure out the shipping cost? I'd love to take advantage of that and ship the souvenirs and things home.

Yes. The resort has a scale and they will ship it back with the proper shipping cost. It has been a life saver for us!

Hope you have a great trip.

Here is what we always list on our box

Wow...this is the first time that I've heard of this. I shipped a box to Pop last year and wasn't charged. My BIL and SIL sent a box to Pop in June, and to my knowledge, they weren't charged either. I've also had water shipped from Staples to Pop twice and haven't been charged. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced being charged? How much were you charged per pound?

About the shipping company, I used UPS because I was sending a bunch of baby food, snacks, etc. for my DD last fall and wanted to be able to confirm through package tracking that the box had arrived.

In the seven years I have been sending things down, I have never been charged for holding the package there. The last time was 2004. Is this a recent change? I may call the resort and double check.
