Shipping School Bread?

Ok - So as an outright chocoholic I didn't expect my Favorite Disney World food to be sans chocolate, in the form of School Bread in the Norway Pavillion.

Since my last trip, I've been telling all my work folks and friends that this is the best stuff in the "World"...

Only problem is that now they want some. One even offered to pay for me to to buy him some and ship it priority overnight. Now - I'd be happy to do that and sell someone else on the glory of the golden bun, but I didn't know if anything in the bread or custard itself would be perishable out of refrigeration for about 24 hours.

We're staying at the beach club on the coming trip, so I was considering buying a half dozen rolls right when world showcase opens, putting them in a Christmas Bread Tin, and shoving that in a pre-paid Fed Ex overnight box that I'd bring with me, but didn't know if the custard would go rancid...

Anybody know if I would be endangering lives with delicious baked goods, or have you shipped school bread successfully?

Strictly from a foodservice standpiont, i would say no - the main ingerdients in custard include whole eggs and as such may not travel safely even though they are 'cooked.' It probably wouldn't really hurt a healthy adult person on the receiving end, but the chance is something you'd have to be willing to take.

One other thing I would worry about when shipping them would be preservation of quality - enclosed in a sealed container with no exterior temperature control, it seems likely they would just become mushy and not really be all that enjoyable once they got there anyways... :confused3

you do know they changed the school bread don't you:sad1:

It's much smaller, and the frosting is caramel. A lot of people don't like the new version at all...:sad2:

it is so so sad to see the change :(

I would check it out for yourself, see if you like the new version. If you do, bring them home with you. They they will only be out of refrigeration for a shorter time and you can deliver them yourselves.

make sure you come back and tell us what you think of the change. Some love it, some don't see it as a big change and some are purists and just :guilty:

I never had the old version, so don't know what I missed. But we loved the school bread. Lots of custard, lots of coconut. The caramel on top provided another flavor dimension. We went back three times during our stay.
