Shipping Packages

Has anyone ever had items they have bought while at Disney shipped back home via their Disney resort or Disney merchant? We go during Thanksgiving week and several years ago it seemed like there was such a long wait for them to be shipped from Disney to our home, we took them to a UPS store and shipped them ourselves. We started doing this since the year of 911 and the heightened security, it just seems easier than trying to take these extra items home on a plane. If you did have items shipped through Disney, how did it go?

The other issue was, Disney would not ship "food" items such as chocolates and their powdered drink mixes (cocoa, lemonade, etc.). Does anyone know if their policy has changed on this or who would I contact to find these things out?

Obviously we do alot of holiday shopping while at Disney for the "hard-to-buy for" crowd. Thanks for your help!

For our trip in May - to celebrate my daughter's 8th birthday - we bought alot more items than we normally do.
So I thought I would take advantage of having our resort - Pop Century ship the items to my home - so I did not have to struggle with them on the plane.

Well, it was a hassle from the beginning.
I called the front desk - 2 days before we left and asked what did I have to do to get items shipped from the resort to my home - and was told to bring the items and the receipts (to prove they were purchased at Disney) to the front desk.
On the morning of our departure - I had alotted an extra hour for taking care of this.
I had to wait in the long lines at the front desk - there is no special person who takes care of this - just any of the front desk folks.
I had all my items in 3 Disney shopping bags, I put all my bags and my receipts up on the top of the front desk counter and told the front desk person that I needed them shipped home. She promptly told me that I had to package them myself. They did not provide boxes, etc. I told her that I was never told this when I called 2 days ago and all she said was SORRY! You have to find your own box.
So I am now furious and head into the gift shop that is located at POP and ask the shop manager if he might have a box that I could have. He was very nice and helped me find a box. I then had to package everything. Take the box and all my receipts and AGAIN stand in line to get waited on. When I finally got to the desk clerk, she helped me tape the box shut and took the box and my shipping information in the back to process a UPS receipt. When guess what - the computer system was down and she could not get me a receipt. She asked me to please come back. Well, we went and had breakfast and came back - HAD TO STAND IN LINE AGAIN!!! - and finally got up to that clerk. She had someone at her station who was making dinner reservations for their entire week and none of them could decide what they wanted to do. I finally had to interrupt them and tell her I was going to miss my flight - and needed my shipping receipt.
Fortunately, she had the receipt and gave it to me.
This whole ordeal took me 3 hours.
It I had known what a tremendous hassle it was - I would have gone straight to the UPS or shipping store that was close by.
All I can say is - NEVER AGAIN will I ship anything home from my hotel.

Shipping from the stores is very easy. Just tell them when you make your purchase that you want to send it home and they'll take care of the rest. It does cost around $12-$15 but if it's going out of state you don't have to pay Florida sales tax so that helps a little. We do it every time now. On our last trip we sent 7 boxes home and I'm sure it will be more this time since we're taking our two nieces with us. Maine
