Has anyone shipped their luggage to their WDW resort or to their DCL ship?

If so who have use used? Shipped in what kind of container (luggage or box)? What was the weight and the costs? Did you ship it home, and how?

I would love to hear a segment on this on the podcast. Now that AA and many more airlines are charging for each checked item it maybe easier and cheaper to ship ahead instead of taking it with you.

Thanks to all in advance.

It's funny that our team heading to Haiti in July (with a quick stoppover in WDW, of course) were told the airlines are now charging $25 for a second bag of luggage and shipping may be less expensive. We all may be looking at other options if the airlines continue to make up for the fuel charges in this matter. We are flying Alaska Air and American Airlines, but I am sure the other airlines will all fall in line. Fortunately we are grandfathered in with two checked-in bags since we purchased our tickets several months ago.:sad2:

Forget charging $25 for the second piece . . . American announced today that it will chart $15 for the FIRST piece. It's not bad enough that AA has fallen to the status of a budget airline, now it's fallen even below that.

Sorry, I totally ignored the OP's question.

Why not try UPS or, for smaller items, the Postal Service's one-price shipping box. It's not big enough to take the place of luggage, but if well-packed could do in a pinch.

I will bet you once more people start shipping their boxes and luggage to the resorts WDW will find a way to make you pay for the service.

I don't think that WDW will miss a chance to charge for the increased labor and storage space handling these items.

Very true!

One of our trips where I shipped a box ahead, we started out at an off-site hotel because DH was attending a conference there, so I shipped the package to that hotel. The hotel charged a "storage fee" for storing the box until we got there. I think it was the Hyatt Grand Cypress.

We have a box ready to ship out in a couple of weeks to the Villas at wilderness lodge. It is getting more cost effective to ship, not to mention time effective not to have to goto the luggage area at the airport. With 3 kids I'll save any schleping thru the airport I can..

Wonderful. :confused3 Now there will be even more people trying to bring extra carry on luggage.

I can hear it now: "I'm allowed one carry on and one personal item, right? Well, this rolling bag is my carry on and this other rolling bag is my personal item. It's my laptop case." :sad2:

On another thread, people have talked about being charged by some Disney hotels and not by others. It seems that "convention" hotels tend to charge by the pound for receiving shipments.

I also think that DCL is restricting shipments as well. I believe that there are customs issues. DCL is also limiting and/or prohibiting liquids, especially alcohol. I believe that this is primarily a revenue issue. There are a few threads on the DCL forum.
