Some posters have suggested shipping luggage as an alternative to paying airline fees. The nominal fees charged by most airlines are generally lower then the cost of shipping luggage.
Frontier wanted to charge me $78 (one way) for a 40 lb bag from NY to Orlando. Not a typo, I kept a screenshot.

I found one company which worked for me.
www.lugless.com
lugless leverages their significant FedEx discounts to offer price attractive products.
I used their very basic, minimalist, service. The cost to send a 50 lb suitcase to Orlando was around $33. I used a new user coupon to lower it to $23. I had to print the label, attach it and bring it to a FedEx manned location. Acceptable locations include Walgreens and Fedex office. You're giving given a drop date, based on your check in date. They basically pad it by a day. My luggage was delivered a day prior.

The positives: Price. Skipping baggage claim. Luggage waiting at my hotel.
Negatives: LUGLESS size for checked and carry on bags may be smaller then your airline. Measure so you don't pay $$$ extra. My suitcase got beaten up more then with airlines. Enough to be annoyed but not enough to even think about filing a claim. Lugless suggests boxing your suitcase. Maybe if you have an expensive suitcase.

Many hotels charge a package processing fee, incoming and outgoing. Swan Dolphin charges $50 (not a typo) for handling a suitcase. Might be less if you use a box instead of a suitcase. Workaround is to use a nearby alternate location. Yacht club business center charged me a $12 processing fee to ship my suitcase home. You could use a Walgreens or Fedex office. Doordash (and I think Uber) will take a package to a nearby Fedex, UPS or post office for nominal price.
Coming home I shipped to a nearby Fedex office. It avoided a $5 fee for residental delivery. I didn't have to be home to sign (signature required).

I'd use them again, if flying with an airline like Frontier. I wouldn't use them if my airline had reasonable fees. The service might make sense if the amount of luggage and people you're travelling with makes transfers at either end more difficult or expensive.
