Okay, I hate to check luggage and would like to ship a box to the resort before I get there. We are staying at the villas at the wilderness lodge. How far ahead of my stay can I ship it down? Will I also be able to ship it back from the resort?

We routinely ship our luggage to the resorts. Have shipped many times to WL. I stopped 'boxing' things and sent really large suitcases. FedEx even has special luggage tags to put on them. Alot of folks ship luggage. If you watch the Today show, Peter Greenberg, a travel expert, recommends shipping your luggage. I prefer FedEx over UPS. I send at least 4 buisness days before check-in and our luggage is waiting for us when we arrive. The day we check out, I ship back home. The ONLY negative seems to be with sending home. No matter how many times I say "Ground only", they ship our luggage air. It is MUCH more expensive. Our last trip I took the large suitcases to a FedEx/Kinko's store and they went ground. Cost outbound about $50 with return $72. They are huge suitcases, each weighing well over the 50lbs allowed by the airlines. Our luggage is always there; FedEx has a much better track record than the airlines.

Thanks, we will be doing thato for sure. Should I just ship it right to the Wilderness Lodge or do I need to let them know and provide my reservation numbers? I'm shipping to the Villas at Wilderness, is that a different address to ship to than the lodge?

We are doing this as well on our October trip to WL. I've done this at other hotels(it's worked out well) but this will be a first at WDW.

I prefer UPS to FedEx because as the pervious post mentions FedEx likes to upgrade everything to air service and that is expen$$ive. Our shipping people at work state that UPS Ground is 98-99% on time and I've never had a problem in the dozen+ times I've done it.

At www.ups.com you can find under the time and cost link the time it will take the shipment to arrive. The web site will also list drop off locations. The Staples store in our town is a UPS drop off center. I suggest having your stuff arrive 1 - 3 days before you do.

The web site also allows you to print a return label(don't forget to pack tape to re-seal the box). When you are leaving the front desk will help you arrange to get your stuff into UPS's hands. Usually you just give it to the resort and they give it to UPS.

I believe the address is the same as WL. Your address label should look something like this:

Guest:(your name)
The Villas at Wilderness Lodge
901 W. Timberline Dr.
Arriving:(Date) Res#(resrvation #)
Lake Buena Vista, 32830

We've stayed at both the Lodge and the Villas and shipped to the address listed for the Lodge. They really are the same. I put the address on the suitcases with our check-in date and our name. Sometimes the suitcases arrive without the label. The staff must cross check the sender's name and knows they are checking in. With using suitcases rather than boxes, it's a bit of a give-away that they belong to a future guest. We have used boxes in the past and they don't hold up well for a round trip.
