Shipping Items ahead of trip

I am going to the RPR on Aug 23rd for 5 nights. and have a question. Does it pay to ship snacks and stuff ahead of time? I am going with my DW, DD (4) & DS (9).

Has anyone had bad experiences or problems? How far in advance should I ship them.
