Has anyone designed a kitchen with Ikea and then had it shipped? We're about 3 hours from the nearest store. Not sure if it's the most economical thing to rent a truck to drive down or what.
All I can see online is a minimum long distance delivery of $349, not sure what the "average" kitchen would be.

We did, but it was 10 years ago. Our closest store was in another state 350 miles away. The plus was that we didn't have to pay sales tax (or something similar). That difference paid for the shipping. I remember it not being that expensive, but it did take a bit longer to arrive. We also had an issue with one of the doors being damaged. Because we paid to have it shipped, they had to pay to ship the replacement. If it were picked up, we would have had to drive back to exchange.

thanks- I didn't even think about sales tax, but that might apply here too as we are in a different state.
And great they paid for the replacement!

We are about 2 hours away and they shipped our 19 cabinets (175 pieces) at a good cost. We had them pull order and ship it. I think they would go beyond us. We did have to make some more trips back for things we ordered but ended up not wanting and some things that we wanted but didn't make it to the order. We finished in Sept 2013 and are very happy so far.

THanks- yes, we were thinking having IKea ship it, just trying to figure out a ballpark cost. Do you remember what yours was? Sounds like a comparable # of cabinets.

My husband sat there and played with their software all afternoon and lost it when he tried to save. UGH!

I just looked up the cost and it was $40 for them to pull the order and $80 delivery. That is about 75 miles on major roads often clogged with traffic. They put it right where I wanted it and then I was able to carry the cabinets one piece at a time so the were light enough and went through the doors easily. On the software make sure the room size is accurate and save two files with no cabinets. One to play with and one as a back up. Our kitchen has a path way from back door to living rm door so I did one file of south wall and one file other three walls. We did have a hard time choosing the cabinet fronts we liked. Ones that look good on line didn't look good in person.

Check the as is to see if any fit your plans.

Make SURE you know when the 10/20% off sale is.

I just checked the sale dates.
Feb 28-Apr 4.
10% off $3500-4500
20% off over $4500.
Make sure to go over your math as you may get more stuff for the same price if you are near the $4500 mark.

I've had a hard time getting info about delivery from our NC store. The website indicates that in general, there is a flat fee for delivery based on distance, regardless of weight, but that delivery charges will vary by store. But when I call to find out what that charge is for the NC store, I can't get an answer.

The more I remember about the shipping the way I understand that it works is they have a big truck that does a group of zip codes each day. Ours happened on Tues and that is the only day they deliver to our area. They had a chart at the home delivery desk with the zip codes costs and day of delivery. Then they fill up the truck with big or little orders and each stop is charged the same for that area. Since ours was a big order and price reasonable I tipped a little.

I would think that if you call the local NC store (Charlotte), ask for home delivery desk with the zip code they would be able to answer your question.
If that is what you tried then I don't have any other ideas.

I'm not sure if this is just at our local Ikea or not, but our Ikea only delivers with a pretty narrow radius (we live 60 miles south of it and we are NOT in the delivery area). My ILs live a long way from an IKEA (I think 4 hours) and they had their kitchen shipped to them. It came via truck (I think drop ship?) and they had to have people available to unload it when it showed up. I think it cost them around $300 or so.

One option you might consider, if your IKEA offers it, is driving with somebody use and getting a UHaul to drive back; our IKEA has Uhaul rental right in the store, and you can drop off near your house.

This was my experience. Within about 50-100 miles they will deliver. If you are outside of that they will drop ship. Ours was drop-ship and cost around $300-400 ten years ago, but I would bet it's still around the same price. I also seem to remember that they only drop shipped it to the curb (they were nice and put it in our driveway). We had to move it from there ourselves, but the boxes weren't that heavy. Just be prepared for a lot of assembly!

If you are thinking of Ikea then consider Cabinets to Go. THey have great cabinets and the price is right. WE looked at Ikea because my contractor suggested them. I decided on Cabinets to go because they are more high end looking. My contractor who installs really high end stuff was skeptical but shocked when he saw the quality...now that is all he recommends for his economy kitchen jobs. He calls them a gift because they are so reasonable yet have all the high end looks and features like all wood construction and slow close draws.

Finally got someone on the phone who was able to answer my question about shipping from the NC store, and she had the answer right away. $299, and they deliver to my area every other Tuesday. We are a good 3 hour drive away.
