I like the idea of being able to ship my bottles of wine to the DCL warehouse and have them delivered to my stateroom. For those of you who have done this, what shipping method did you use (FedEX, UPS, USPS, etc.)?? And when you shipped your boxes containing alcohol did you specify that is what the boxes contained? What is the best way to handle this? Thank you for any input. :drinking1 :drinking:

I shipped usps priority mail, and no...I did not specify wine. I wrapped it really good and off it went.

How far in advance should you send it? I assume they don't want it there last minute, but if you send it too early it might get lost in the warehouse!

When I called DCL to get this information, they gave me the phone number of the warehouse they used and I called directly. They said I could send as soon as I wanted, as long as it was there..so far in advance..I think 24 or 48 hours before sail date..something like that. I did this this past may..so I can't remember..lol.

The people are very nice, there is no fee to you, expcept what it costs for you to mail the stuff to the warehouse. When we arrived in our stateroom at 1:30pm that Saturday all 4 boxes had already been delivered. (yes, 4 boxes, we were on the May repo cruise and I had to mail ahead all the stateroom gifts for the disboard members as well as some alchohol..lol). I also called the warehouse to confirm that all boxes had arrived. The lady I spoke with was excellent, I even got the manager on phone one day, he was excellent as well.

This is a great service. We only mailed things that we would not be taking back home with us..thank goodness. Don't use the mailing ahead as an excuse to overpack..expecially if you are flying home..lol.

Please keep in mind that you run a risk shipping wine because it's not legal to ship it to or out of Florida. Most of the mentioned methods of shipping won't ship wine.

Didn't the laws just change on wine? I believe it's now changed that you can ship anywhere -

When I wanted to ship wine to Fl from TX (:cool1:) for the May repo cruise I was told at the UPS office that UPS would not ship wine to Florida from TX....

Which DCL warehouse? Florida or California?

I believe the Federal Law was passed stating that states could no longer allow shipping within their own state while prohibiting outside states from shipping to consumers. I know they were allowing states to specifically decide whether they were going to prohibit alcohol shipments altogether in their state or open it up to outside states as well. That is something that is left to each indivudual state to decide however and I was unable to find what the timeline for states to make their decision is.

The wine shipping laws are specifically limiting "Direct Shipment" (a winery outside the state of Florida from shipping to someone who lives there). I know that some states say they limit this because they don't want to encourage underage drinking and a teenager could order wine over the internet. If you are purchasing wine at your local wine ship/grocery store, you are being checked for ID when you make the purchase in person.

"Direct shipments via common carrier prohibited. Click below to read Felony Statute for wineries to direct ship. On-Site sales Exception: Under Federal Law passed in 2002, Florida residents visiting on-site at a winery may have up to one (1) gallon of wine shipped back to Florida. Click below for explanation of statute."

I found the above statement on several sites that are keeping track of the new Wine Shipping Laws. This is the most up-to-date info for Florida. I can't seem to find any laws about shipping wine to YOURSELF, but I would argue that it would be similar to you purchasing wine "on-site" and shipping it that way. In Florida you are allowed 1 gallon shipped if you purchase "on-site" at a winery.

Hope all this helps someone. :)

Oh, and I did find that UPS/FedEx aren't shipping to/from states that still have restrictions at the moment (if you tell them you are shipping wine, that is). Not sure about USPS.

I think they are trying to stay out of it until everything is all finalized so they aren't going to get in trouble. :)

Can I use this option to ship a big box of baby stuff? Say...diapers and formula? Would be great to haul around less stuff, especially with so many little kids to get on board!

If anyone has done this would love information and or advice.

Thanks!
Susy

Texas just (hallelujah!) changed that law about shipping wine in and out. :Pinkbounc It may take some time for the shipping people to catch up to it, but it is definitely now legal.

Well let's hope that FL changes soon!! I would love to ship a case of champange, but would hate for something to happen to it.
