If I want to ship a package to the resort with cereal and such, how much in advance will I need to ship it? We live in Williamsburg, VA and I want to make sure it arrives on time for us, but I don't want Disney to have to store it for too long either. If it makes any difference we are staying at the CBR. Thank you!!! Oh yeah, and we are going on Dec. 7th, so the Christmas shipping will have begun by then, so do we need to allow more time for that?

USPS priority mail will take 2-3 days. With the holiday shipping season, you might want to aim for 5 days, just to be sure. I would mail on Saturday, 12/1. I would not recommend USPS parcel post, as delivery times can be very long, sometimes 7-10 days (and more).

If you use UPS, they will give you a delivery estimate based on zone, and tell you to calculate 1-2 days additional because it's the busy season.

I am not familiar with the other major carriers, but I would think you will have similar recommendations for shipping time.

You can of course get guaranteed delivery from USPS, UPS, FedEx -- but that cost is not likely to be worth it.

Remember to include the guest name and date of arrival in the address.

Just a warning that it may take a long time to get your package. We shipped a box of water and food to CSR. I had CSR's direct address and had it sent there priority mail with a tracking number. I got confirmation that it was delivered.
Well, all packages sent to resorts to go a main mailroom first and then get sent out to the resorts. The CM at CSR could not find the package for nearly an entire week. When we finally got it, the box was ripped and torn so that stuff was spilling out of it.
Needless to say, we were not happy. That's the last time we're ever shipping anything to a resort.

We've shipped several times and never, ever had a problem. We usually ship UPS just a few days before we leave. Each time, our box was waiting for us at the front desk of our resort when we checked in.

One of the best tips I've read about shipping is to label ALL sides (all six) of your package. Often the boxes are stacked up in the holding room willy-nilly, and it will save time in retrieving it if the side with your information happens to be the one showing.

I make up a sheet on the computer that says:

Hold For: xxxxxxxxxxx (our first and last name)
Reservation #: xxxxxxxxxx
Arrival Date: xxxxxxxxxx
Resort: xxxxxxxx

And then I tape it to all the sides.

Good luck!

I have shipped a box to our resort every year for the past 8 years - have never had a problem. I always use UPS. I have read on these boards not to ship via USPS for the reason mentioned in a previous post. I believe the packages shipped UPS go directly to the resort. Anything can be shipped overnite - but that would be expensive. If I'm arriving on a Sat., I usually ship out a week before - UPS delivery is 4-5 days. I call the resort the day before we arrive to make sure the box is there. They have no problem holding it for a couple of days - just make sure your arrival date is clearly marked on the label.

When you're considering shipping stuff to your resort, keep Owner's Locker in mind...we're a new business and a DIS sponsor. We provide you with a container to store your personal items; we have your stuff waiting for you at your resort when you check in, pick it up when you leave and keep it in our climate-controlled warehouse until you come back. It's a lot more convenient that boxing things up, lugging them to the shipper and hoping they arrive in one piece. It also beats throwing unused stuff away.

I couldn't agree more, but we haven't bought DVC yet and I can't garantee when we will get back to WDW again. So, for us, it is up to shipping it there and then back home again. Anyway, thanks for the great advice.
