I want to ship a package to POR, so that I will have it when I arrive at the resort.

Has anyone shipped a package to a resort?

How did you ship the package?

...any suggestions?

I sent a package to myself in January (2005). It worked great for me becuase I did not rent a car or hire a towncar...I took Mears. I would reccomend using UPS. I did UPS ground and it was $14.99 to send the package (it was 16lbs). I sent my package on Jan 13th and it was estimated to get to my resort on the 19th (my arrival date) it was not there when I arrived (I got there around 12:45pmish), but that night when I got back from the parks I had a message from the front desk and they brought the package to my room. Check out the UPS website (If you use them) to figure out how many days in advance to send your package.

I had the following on the outside my package
Guest Name
Resort Address
Hold for arrival on _________
Reservation number

I also put some stickers on my package so it stood out as well :goodvibes

Someone mentioned that there might be a fee for delivery to resort? Might they have said convention resorts, and if so, does that mean CSR? We had intended to do wegoshop for delivery but now it turns out the only thing we'll need is beer/wine/maybe granola bars and thought maybe we should send it down -- then again, beer can be heavy, so we'll have to think about it again. Anyways, does anyone know if there is a convention resort charge?

I have a package in transit right now to ASMusic. 59 lbs and it was $27.95 to ship UPS ground from Illinois to Orlando. I have tracked it and it is in Orlando and should be delivered to the hotel tomorrow. We won't be arriving until Monday, but that's a holiday and they wouldn't have delivered until Tuesday. I called the hotel and asked if it was OK for my stuff to get there ahead of me and the CM said that people do it all the time. No problem. She said to put my name, arrival date and reservation # on the box.

I don't know why it would be more expensive to deliver to Coronado Springs. I do know that it's cheaper to ship to a commercial address than to a residence. It seems all hotels would just be considered commercial.

We shipped a package to POR on our last trip. When we checked in, it was no where to be found. I asked if it had possibly been sent to POFQ instead or POR and was told they checked there, too, and it wasn't at either places.

I had the tracking number and called from AK waiting for the parade that afternoon and found out it had arrived at the hotel 3 days before. Went back to the hotel desk and provided them with the CM's name who had signed for the package and the time. The CM was off duty for three days and not answering her phone at home.

The manager was very nice, especially since I had the CM's name who had signed for the package so he knew I was telling the truth, and offered to replace everything in the package. He gave us a few things to tide us over and I started working on a list whenever we were waiting in lines the next day.

The package showed up on the second day...thank goodness....because I had forgotten most of the stuff I had packed in it. It had been at POFQ the whole time.

If you send a package I suggest:

Labelling it in really big letters with Riverside or French Quarter (I did this...didn't help....but it might next time)

Keep your tracking slip with you so you can trace it if necessary.

Keep a list of everything you sent and an approx. dollar value in case Disney misplaces it.

JMHO,

It's funny you guys are mentioning this. We will be staying at the Grand Floridian July 16. For you Harry Potter fans - you know what that means!

I have been considering ordering the book from Amazon.com and having it shipped to the GF so it would come there during our stay on the first day it is released. Still haven't made up my mind.

Does anyone know if there is a bookstore in Disney World that will be selling it? I know the movie is Warner Brothers so I'm not expecting a party at midnight or anything like that. Just somewhere where I can get my hands on the book.

I have sent packages ahead numerous times and have never had a problem. Very easy to do. Last July I just told the front desk that I was expecting a package and it was delivered to our room right away.

Definitely use the UPS site to figure out delivery time.

Good luck!

After doing it, do you feel it was truly worth it? I'm curious to know!

We ship our protein shakes. Considering we'd otherwise be eating breakfast that is five times more expensive, isn't half as good for us, and no where near as convenient, it's a bargain.

About the fee for receipt of packages at the resorts, we've only been charged the fee once (out of maybe six or seven times we've shipped packages to the resort).

It is definitely worth it for us! I pack cereal, bagels, Nutrigrain bars, snacks (lots of snacks!!), plastic silverware, paper products, rain ponchos, anything I don't want to pack. We usually eat breakfast in the room unless we are doing a character breakfast. This saves us so much time and money!

We have never been charged a fee by the resort.

Good luck! :flower: :flower:

I shipped a package in April to ASMovies and it was problem-free. Cost me about $10 and arrived in 4 days like UPS said it would. There was no charge by the hotel for the handling of the package, but I've heard other hotels do charge a fee. It was kept in the baggage handling area for when we checked in (although I had forgotten about it until I got to the room and had to call down to have it delivered).

I'm on a special diet...wheat-free, milk-free, etc so I shipped crackers, soy milk (which was $5 a carton there), etc and it worked out great. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Except this time I'd pack those single cereals for my DH and DS because those little buggers cost us near $10 with milk in the foodcourt everyday. Little did I know my family was going to be on an Apple Jacks kick for 9 days :)

Just be sure to label it with your name/confirmation number of your stay and the date you arrive, along with the hotels information.

Besides breakfast and utensils. Anyone else put something different in the package? Has anyone shipped a fake Christmas tree to their resort? Not a small one, but a regular size tree?

In my package I shipped:
Water, Toilet Paper (the Disney stuff is way too rough), Kleenex, some treats (candy, crackers), crystal light on the go, a reuseable water bottle (I got it at the target dollar spot), and a few other things I can't remember at the moment.

I just wanted to say hi from another southern Illinoisan...GO DAWGS!!! I'm out by the Williamson County airport. Recently found another DISser from Carbondale and a while back one from Harrisburg...like that famous WDW ride..."it's a small world".

Thanks for the great information about shipping a package...I've been contemplating it for our December trip. We will be at WDW on June 1 - 6...maybe will see you there...

Scoutsmom -

How did you pack your water/how much did you ship? I would love to send 2 cases of water, and some gatorade to our resort - then we wouldn't need a grocery stop!

geetey,
I sent like 10 bottles if I remember correctly (I was solo so it was just for me for a week). I took the bottles out of the packaging and placed each in the box and then used newspaper to cushion everything. It worked great.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am obviously looking at a lot more water. It looks like we are renting a car, since our ME tags still aren't here, so a quick stop at the grocery store is no big deal. We get in too late to go to any parks anyway. I was just curious. Gotta start thinking about the next trip.... :goodvibes

I pre-ordered the new Harry Potter book from Amazon.com and gave the address for it to be shipped to me at the Grand Floridian the day it comes out (July 16th). No midnight book parties for me this year. I'll let you know how it turns out.

We just got home Thursday or I would have replied sooner. I used to hang out in Herrin way back in the day and went to school for a couple of years at SIU. Go Dawgs! I'm from Golconda. That's where my screen name PirateFan is from: Pope County Pirates. pirate:

I met a DISer on the boat from MK to Fort Wilderness. It is a small world.

Hope you had a good trip. It sure was crowded.
