Shipping a Dress?

Hi Everyone! First let me say I'm so happy to be part of this board. I've learned so much about planning and gotten so many great ideas so thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone. My question is regarding shipping my wedding dress. I'm from NY and was wondering, for all you other out of town brides, how did you get your dress down to Disney? Can it be shipped directly to the Disney hotel where we are staying? My nightmare would be it getting lost or damaged but I really don't want to take it on the plane with me if I don't have to. Any ideas?

Thanks! :flower:

My mom is carrying it on the plane in a gramet bag & then we are getting it steamed by Carolines. I personally wouldn't risk shipping it, with my bad luck it would end up in Tokyo!

We have bought my dress a seat. I figured it'd probably be just a bit more then shipping it, and it will never leave my site. Plus it gets it's own luggage. So that's what we're doing. I think you can ship to Carolyn's and she'll steam and deliver it to you. But I was just too afraid to have it lost by UPS.

Mine went via UPS (with a tracking number) straight to Carolyn Allen's. Carolyn herself brought it to our room at the WL two days before. She had steamed it at the store so she just did touchups in our room. It looked great.

I had no problems shipping it ahead and I was really glad I didn't have to deal with it at the airport.

MelMel - That's a great idea! Did you just book two seats in your name? I wonder if I can use my frequent flyer miles.

I'm not sure what I'll do yet but like I said, I'm afraid it will get lost if I shipped it but would hate to end up having to check it if I brought it on the plane. So I'm thinking it's own seat is a great idea!

One more question...who is Carolyn???

Thanks!

When you get your list of preferred vendors Carolyn Allen will be on there. :flower:

I just did it last week. We had our seats booked online, then decided to add the dress to be safe. So I called Airtran and added it on. It was fun because the girl had never booked a seat for a non person before, so she had to check on how it works. I know other brides have said that some airlines offer a reduced rate so deffinatly ask, Airtran doesn't. When I got the confirmation it's just another seat in my name, but others have said it's wedding dress last name. The biggest upside was that she decided since the dress shouldn't sit alone she booked our actual seats right away so we know where we're sitting, major perk, no doing it online 24 hours before. And it gets luggage.

Good luck
Melissa

Okay, so now I'm going to have to go with booking a seat for my dress. That way, like you said MelMel, I can avoid the stress of worrying whether or not it will get there and it will NEVER leave my sight. Also, it means I get to bring more luggage if I need to! Do you know how much they might charge to steam it once I get to Disney? I'm so excited now! Many, many thanks!

Did you go through Carolyn Allen's for the tux rental? I know we can have the fittings done up here and pick them up in Fla if we go through a place called After Hours but I'm wondering if I should just go through one place...thoughts?

He used Sciortino's and they were great too.
