Thinking of shipping a car from Fl to Mass. Does anyone have any idea of the cost? Looking for ballpark. Every time I try to get info, the company wants email/phone. I don’t want to be hounded. Thought perhaps someone here might have some experience.

You want to use my email address? I have one that works but i can't access (so even if tgey hound me, i won't ever know.) Or if they're going to email information, we can use my junk mail address, i won't care if they do bombard me :)

Aren’t you the nice person! That’s ok though.

About 10 years ago neighbors had a car shipped from GA to NH. They opted to wait until the driver had a full load to bring the cost down as they weren't in a hurry (which in their case was about a month). I believe they paid about $1000.

Thanks guys. I was figuring on around $1000. Glad to see I was being realistic.

if you google 'auto shipping' you can find listings for sites where you enter your info once and get quotes from multiple companies. I did this when I shipped a Miata from Miami to San Fran. I was not hounded in the future ... got quotes and contact info and that was pretty much it. Selected a company and called them.

Note that this service is typically not door to door .... in the same way that household goods can have multiple homes on one truck and it makes additional stops so to must an auto carrier fill his truck then proceed with potential stops along the way. In my case on the selected pickup date a simple flat bed tow truck came and pickup the car to take it to a holding location. I did not get the car back at the end point for several weeks where it came off a regular big auto carrier ... obviously not the truck that picked it up.

As mentioned it is not cheap - and this is for an open carrier. If the car is 'special' and/or you want a closed carrier, this costs more.

did you know you can hire a driver to drive your car? This can cost much less .....

also while it may not help today, something to remember ... I was looking to get a car from Florida to Norfolk and didn't want to drive so was again looking at shipping costs. Mrs suggested the auto-train. I put the car on the train and got a roomette for a fraction of the cost of trucking the car. I had a lil bit of a drive on each end but under 2 hours .... I've used this method to move cars between VA and FL a few times now.

Thanks! Never thought of the auto train!!

It would be cheaper to fly to FL and drive it back to Mass.

autotrain is likely to be more cost effective then shipping.

VERY but there are no 'options' Lorton VA <> Sanford FL ...... one departure a day ....

I can't vouch for their pricing, but my boss's parents us American Auto Transport out of Canton each year to ship their car to and from Naples. They've always been very happy with the service, and they are quite particular.

About the same distance a couple of years ago for us was around 900.00. That was for door to door delivery.

Covered vs uncovered makes a difference.

My husband is shipping his car from KC to Long Beach, LA at the end of March and it's just under $800 uncovered. That was around the same amount to ship his car from Lusby, MD to KC.

My MIL spent $800 from Florida to New Jersey. When the gentlemen got to her house he had to charge her more because her car was packed with boxes. Just another thing to consider...

We’ll already be in Florida. I realize driving it is cheaper. Trying to avoid that.

Thanks. I’ll check them out!

Various transportation companies provide free online quote facility go for it.
I’m aware. I don’t want hundreds of emails from various companies. I already get several emails a day from shipping companies!

We’re planning on shipping dd’s stuff in its own. Some kind of pod or uhaul thing.
The cheapest is renting a truck and towing the car. That means a second driver. Dh really wants to avoid the two day drive if he can.

With the Autotrain it would drop you off just south of DC, so you still have to deal with DC and NYC area traffic getting back to MA. Which is probably the worse part of the FLA to MA trip. But it does save you around 850 miles of driving though. It arrives in VA around 9a and they do have priority off loading available for an extra fee and you car will be one of the first ones off which can save a lot of time.
