Shipboard charges question ?

I know I've seen where you give guest services a credit card for your shipboard charges and that they then charge the card every x amount. Do they take debit cards as well? Or shall I just give them cash and then go back and give more cash as needed? I know the debit card hasn't been a problem at the resorts as it works just like a credit card but don't want to be surprised when we get on the ship and they don't accept them.
