Ship Question

How about basing the Magic out of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale? That would cut a significant portion of the trip if they were to do a more southernly Carribean trip and still keep it a week for turn around.

This would be awesome :cool1::cool1:

That would be good, and it would be nice to see them visit other islands in the Carribbean since there are so many they can go to. By them keeping 7 day Carribbean sailings it would be easier for them to fill the ships, rather than doing 10/11 day sailings for a few months in the winter. There's so many other ports they can leave from if they want to be an Ambassador ship.

I heard a rumor from someone who use to work on the ship that the Magic might do some cruises out of NYC/NJ, not all year long just special, hopefully this rumor will come true one day:goodvibes

I would love to see them do more of the "different" ports in the Caribbean, like the other cruise lines do.
Flying across the pond for the Med and Baltic cruises is cost-prohibitive for most Americans. But maybe they're wanting to nab the European market.
:confused3

From personal experience, from driving the DCL execs around the Port and part of the state prior to the existence of DCL, if there plans still hold true, DCL is at least 10 years behind there initial plans. There initial plans called for a fleet of at least 10 ships, and the Dream and Fantasy which were/are still the number 3 and 4 ships in the fleet, were supposed to debut in 2000 and 2001.

The other ships, were supposed to be in intervals after those dates.Figure 2 ships per port, and thats 5 ports in the world that would have a Disney ship homeported.

How about Galvestion? They would be able to do more of the West/South Carribean ports. There is not much competition out of Galvestion (1 RCCL that spends the summer in Europe and 2 Carnival ships). And the best part - it is within driving distance from my home :goodvibes

I had forgotten their plans were for many more ships than they have now. I had only remembered the Dream/Fantasy were supposed to debut in the early 2000's.

Moving the ship to Miami or Ft Lauderdale will save them some hours but not enough time to do a Southern Carribbean itinerary in 7 days. To do a true Southern Carribbean itinerary in 7 days, you have to sail from San Juan. I think DCL is more likely to keep the ship sailing from Port Canaveral so they can still tie it to WDW and do a longer sailing (ie 10/11 days).

I would love to see them sail from NY/NJ and do some Bermuda or Canada/NE sailings but I think we are still years from hearing an announcement like that.

I would LOVE to see them go out of Galveston, Houston, or New Orleans....all of these are an easier flight for us in Arizona.
We've cruised out of NOLA and Houston, with Galveston coming this fall. But....transportation is a pain in the neck in Galveston, we're finding out. Just not many choices out there and all are pretty expensive. They really need to step that up a little.

Its one of the benefits of being a former Disney Driver that did some work in the Specials Department.Were privy to more than a few secrets.One of the drivers I worked with, his gf,worked for DCL shoreside, and one of our dispatchers,(her sister was onboard the Wonder as the head of shipboard HR) both said they had gotten letters,from DCL in 2000 for the next set of ships, but they were quickly put on hold for one reason or another.Probably due to 9/11 and a shortage in personell.They shuttered 2 or 3 resorts for a short time in that time frame.

Ill give you a free insider secret.(Way OT)We did a tour with the execs from Great Adventure.They were asked specifically about when they were coming to Fl, with a park.The answer was only when Disney gives it support to one.This was when Boardwalk and Baseball/Circus World was for sale.And weve seen how far thats gone.
