SHIP OF FOOLS SISTERHOOD - Strong & Healthy in 2005!!!

Hang in there Lisa. My aunt and a very good friend had them too. It gets better! Hugs to you.

I lost 2 more pounds!!!!!!

Just wish it would finally get nice outside so we can go for outdoor walks. Of course, it is snowing again.

Way to go Denine!! Not sure if I will have a WW meeting tomorrow or not. At last count, we are 3 people short. The stress of it all!!!!

Tracy

Way to go Denine. Keep up the good work! I am so proud of you!

I only lost .4. We celebrated our anniversary so I didn't expect too much. Now I better make up for it next week!!

Just tried on swimsuits today. How depressing!

Thanks guys!

Hope you get your meeting Tracy.

no meeting :(

Next week we should make it though.

NEED OPINIONS -- RE: GAZELLE . . .

I was looking at the Gazelle on both the Target and WalMart websites after seeing some of you mention it on this thread. It looks very interesting and definitely something I could do. The Target site offers both the lower priced Gazelle (the $99 one) and the Ab-chair as a package deal for $198. Are you all happy with the results you are getting from the Gazelle? And is it enough that if I have that and the ab chair I won't need to sign up at Curves again? They are both low impact -- but are they considered resistance training?

Thanks so so much for any info you can provide.

Cathy

I don't know about the Abschair, but the Gazelle is not resistance training. It is strictly aerobics (they may argue otherwise). There is no resistance settings on the lower model. That said, I love it. I do some other exercises for the resistance training and the Gazelle for aerobics. I have never liked aerobics so if this machine gets me to do it, something's right!

I guess what I'm trying to find out is how it affects your body and what parts. In other words, does it tighten up anything or help pounds or inches to eventually come off?

I think it does help with pounds and inches. I notice it more in my legs and butt.

Hi sisters. Just got back from my trip to Richmond VA and DC. It was fab but I missed Allan and Joy so much. Got lots of exercise, walking round all those wonderful shops and museums and monuments. I managed to lose a couple of pounds while I was away so am motivated to get myself back on track. Catching up with the thread is always inspirational but I am even more motivated now that spring is here.

Lisa, how are your shingles now? I do hope you are feeling better. My Mum had them last year in her eye and she was in so much pain, I really sympathise with you.

Oh, and what's a Gazelle? Apart from some kind of deer that is.

Good to be back, everyone and get the motivation from you all.

Pam

Have you heard of Tony Little? A gazelle is an eliptical-like machine that you stand on and your feet go back and forth (as well as your arms). If you do a google search on gazelle and tony little, you'll find it!

So, is it what we would call an air walker? You make it sound like such fun, but I bet getting the balance right is tricky?

A little tricky at first, but it is so easy to do. It's the only thing that I have found that I like.

Hello Sisters,

I hope this finds you having a relaxing and fun Sunday! My plans were changed, so instead I am enjoying some internet time. :)

I wanted to thank everyone for your kind words of support and sharing with me regarding my hysterectomy. It made me feel better, and gave me the extra energy to continue forward with this health journey. You are all the best!

ARLENE: Your tips encouraged me to keep walking! I did take a week off to heal, and I am back to walking. We have a park close by, and one lap equals one mile. I really enjoy walking this park. Sometimes I just think as I walk, other times I listen to music. I also plan to begin doing just the upper body weight training, and add back my leg exercises without the weights. These have toned me in the past. You have the wonderful gifts of nurturing and intuitively wise words! Thank you so much!

GABRIELLE: I’m so very glad that you’ve joined us on this thread! I know how overwhelming the main cruise thread can be…it’s a lively crowd! ;) Hope you know that you are welcome there any time!!! CONGRATS on your weight loss!

DENINE: Well girlfriend, it looks like you and I hold the trophy for many surgeries, lol! Really, big hugs to you for the courage to go through your many surgeries and then to move forward. You say you do not feel like an inspiration, but you are to me and others here. Every time I read about your continued weight loss, I do the happy dance and feel much more motivated. You are doing GREAT! You are making changes now that will last a lifetime. You are doing it the right way with your new healthful way of eating and cooking! How is the plantar fasciitis? My mom had that and I remember it being very painful. Hope it is healing AOK.

SANDY: Oh my, a hysterectomy at age 28 and with twins no less!!! You must have had little time to think about recovery, as you were so busy with your new babies!!! And, now your dd is expecting twins too? Do I remember that correctly?! Congrats! Keep up the great work Sandy!!!

TRACY: Sounds like you have a new strategy. Though if you are a size 6, for the life of me I do not know why you want to loose 10 more pounds….all I can say is, WOW, good going! You have had a journey too. The changes must stick and you have been successful with it sticking. I do encourage you to do resistance training, as that is what ultimately got me to my best when I was at my best. If you do not have a program, there is one for home use I can recommend.

eye R.N.: How is the training for your marathon doing?! We’re rooting for you!!! Give us an update when you have a chance. You seem to be in great shape and have come to the place of good health! Kudos to you!

LISA F.: Really sorry to hear about your shingles and the side effects of your meds. I’m hoping that you’ll have a speedy recovery. Be good to yourself, and do not let food be your comfort. Try to eat healthy, and let your loved ones care for you in the ways you want and need. No need to post, as you need to heal. We are here if you want to “chat.” Best wishes!

CATHY: Did you decide upon the gazelle? I have been thinking about it too, though we have a treadmill, and I really like walking. JANET: How is the gazelle going for you??? You are in the midst of your busiest work season, so I hope all is well with you Janet! You two let us know about that gazelle!

PAM: Welcome back here too! YAHOO on your weight loss during vacation, that is awesome!!! Spring definitely helps to get us motivated. :) I am definitely jealous about all the good things Allan and Joy did for you at home for your welcome back. Your home fires burn brightly Pam! And yes, you know you love your dh. We can’t live with them’ and we can’t live without them, right?!

OK, now for this week’s tips, etc.

Are you keeping track of what you are eating? This has been my number one help in changing my eating patterns and my help in loosing weight. I follow the WW points, but anything will do. WW makes it easy to keep track of what you eat and balance it out. This time I’m really finding things that are healthy, and balancing in some of my favorites along the way.

What are your favorite “healthy” snacks?

Here are some of mine:

1. 7 low fat trisket crackers. They are higher in protein than most (which keeps you full), higher in fiber, and low in fat and calories. I’ve taken to this when I need a “salty” fix.

- 7 Triskets = 2 pts. – 120 calories, 3 g of fat, 3 g fiber, 3 g protein.

- Skinny cows = 2 pts. WW has their own version and are good and 2 pts. too. These are Denine’s favorites!!!

- Bon Bel cheese – one circle = 2 pts. (For when you need a cheese fix!) There is a low-fat version, but my grocery store rarely has it, so I go with convenience. I probably eat one a day. Good for calcium too.

- Salsa! = zero points! I like sauces, so it works for me. Be sure it has low salt. I literally spoon it in to a small dish and eat it by itself. May not work for everyone, but if you like salsa, try it!

So, let us know your favorites if you have the chance! Have a good week ahead everyone!

Barbara, I am not a size 6. I have two formals that are a size 6. I generally wear a size 10.

Just wanted to check in. The shingles are doing a lot better. The rash is well on its way to healing and I am on less strong pain medications (no more codeine, yay!) I had very little appetite while I was on the codeine so I pretty much ate whatever I wanted because natural portion control kicked in and I doubt I even ate as many calories as I should during the last week, but I have to get back to my 5-7 small meal a day routine now that I have a bit mroe appetite back and I need to get back to the gym. I got really lucky that the anti viral meds stopped it from spreading and I didin't have it on my face or eye, but my back and chest still aches/hurts sometimes (mostly in the afternoon/evening). I'm no longer contageous so I can go back to curves, woohoo!

Anyway today was my 1 month weigh in and I have lost exactly 10 lbs this month. I didn't know how it would go since I didn't do anything but sleep the last week and a half but I managed to lose another few pounds while being sick, so at least there is a silver lining to that cloud.

Lisa (trying out the new clippie)

Way to go Lisa! 10 pounds is a great accomplishment! Keep up the good work!

Lisa: Glad you are feeling better and the 10 pounds lost to boot! Way to go!

Barbara: Thank you for your kind words. You have a way of making people feel good about themselves. I have had 4 surgeries and hope for no more!

Favorite healthy snacks:
popcorn cakes: 2 for 1 point
skinny cow's, chocolate peanut butter: 3 points
Slim a Bear, mint or vanilla: 2 points
All Bran bars: 2 points
meringues: 12 for 2 points. I like the mint chocolate chip.

I need my sweets so I don't feel deprived. I like sweet much better than salty!

Had a tough food weekend. Went to dinner at a friends, they are both on WW too, but they get several more points than we do. I used all of my flex points on Saturday for the dessert alone! Sunday was a birthday party, sam food, hot dogs and potato salad. Do you know how many points a plain hot dog is? I only got into 4 flexpoints yesterday, but I need more for St. Patrick's Day for my corned beef and potatoes.

Barbara: That is what I like about WW. I write down everything I eat and stop eating when I run out of points. I don't always get my dairy in, but I usually get lots of fruits and veggies. I usually have yogurt for breakfast, but that is it.

I was proud of myself on Thursday. I was frustrated all day, but I had no points left and I wanted to eat. I told DH as well as myself that I couldn't eat just because I was frustrated and I didn't!
