ship credits & discounts

hi - we want to book a 7-day for oct. 2003 - we've always booked while on land - but we're thinking that we may get a better deal if we book on-board - is the only deal a shipboard credit - we've used our dc membership and gotten shipboard credits on our past cruises - are they the same shipboard credits - we'd like not to have to put a $1000 charge just when we're coming back from vacation - but if we get a good deal we might - thanks for your help - kiddisney

According to several posters on this board, the shipboard credit is the only incentive--no discounts.

You won't receive any additional discount by booking onboard the ship, but this is the ONLY way to receive the Castaway Club shipboard credit. The price you receive on the ship is the same price (discounted by early booking savings) you would receive by calling DCL at that time. The Disney Club credit is $50 per stateroom, but the Castaway Club credit can be up to $200 per stateroom for a 7-night cruise!

When I first found these boards in March and read about the stateroom credit I emailed my TA to ask about it for our 4/26/03 cruise. She called DCL and was told it was not available for our cruise.

After reading this link and hearing that someone had gotten the discount for a cruise in January, I thought it was worth having my TA check again. I emailed her the post from the board and sure enough - she rechecked with DCL and as of 8/1 they have extended the first time cruisers stateroom credit for 2003!

Is the shipboard credit only available if you book a 7 night cruise while on board or is it applicable for booking a 3 or 4 night cruise, too?

Hi Emily,
If you book any cruise onboard, you will be entitled to a Castaway Club shipboard credit. The total depends on which cruise, the 7-night is higher than the 3- and 4-night. This is subject to change as they have changed the onboard booking program at least 4 times, but for the time being, this is what they are offering.
