Shiny Happy People

Your first name wouldn't happen to be Ebeneezer would it? ;)

I must be pretty naive, I still had to google what Pollyanna type people are....

Pollyanna is the main character in a book by Eleanor Hodgman Porter (made into a wonderful Disney movie, of course!)

Ms. Porter said that "Pollyanna did not pretend that everything was good...she represented a cheery, courageous acceptance of the facts. She understood that unpleasant things are always with us, but she believed in mitigating them by looking for whatever good there is in what is."

The classic example from the story is that she was accidentally sent a pair of crutches in the missionary barrel instead of the doll she wanted. Her father cheered her up by creating "The Glad Game" - challenging her to find something in the situation to be glad about. She chose to be thankful that she didn't need them.

OP, sorry you're overwhelmed this season. I'll notch down the pixie dust I'm sending you a tiny bit: :wizard::goodvibes:wizard::goodvibes:wizard:

I am pretty shiny and happy these days. It's almost CHRISTMAS we got snow in NC and if that can't make ya shiny.....there is no help for you!

Lisa

If you're annoyed by shiny happy people then I can introduce you my In-Laws who have been quite the opposite lately. I would gladly trade you both of them for a shiny happy person, I'd even trade both of them for a dull apathetic one... grrrrr

I could really use some shiny happy people right now

Freaky timing for this -- my kiddos are scheduled to start reading Pollyanna at the beginning of next year.

I don't see too many shiny happy people around here lately. For example, a guy honked at me yesterday because I turned on my blinker, slowed down appropriately and turned into a parking lot. He didn't have time for such nonsense!

I could stand a few more Pollyana's personally. :(

One of the many reasons I love that movie so much.. People make choices every day.. They can be happy and make the best out of a bad situation (or in the very least, look for the silver lining - which I guess would be "shiny" - LOL) or they can choose to be miserable and mope..

I haven't always been "happy and shiny", but when I realized that it not only made me miserable, but those around me as well, I made the choice to be happy every day and try to find some "good" - even in the bad things..:goodvibes

It's a much nicer way to live..:thumbsup2
