I had the original Singles vaccine. The protection was only about 40%, but any percent is better than getting the disease.
When the 2 shot vaccine came out, I got that, also. I had no problem with the first one, but the second one was bad - big, red, hot welt on my arm. Couldn't raise my arm up (much like tetanus shot). And bad headache and nausea for a couple of days.
Shingles shot, especially second one, was the worst reaction to a shot I've ever had - worse than flu, covid, DPT, etc. But having seen my daughter with shingles while she was in med school (stress), I'll take the temporary pain!
I had no problems with the first shot. The second shot was a different story, haha.
The nurse told me to make sure I moved my arm a lot after I got the second shot. I told her I was going to do my swim and she said that would be perfect.
Just don't swim 5,000 meters after you get your second shot. Trust me on this.
I had the 2 shot course. Was pretty sick for both. Made it hard to go back for that second shot. My friend got her second shot recently and was very sick. Also had a terribly sore arm. But, better than shingles.
First shot was more painful than usual and for approx. a week the left side of my body was itchy (shot was in left arm).
Second shot was still painful but no side effects this time.
I had both the single vaccine and the double-dose vaccine. With the first one of the two dose version I felt like I had been hit by a bus. I had to take a nap. When I woke up I was fine. A neighbor had a similar experience where he felt really bad for about 24 hours after the first shot. Second not as bad, just a bit of arm discomfort.
I got mine a few years ago - pre-Covid. I had a reaction to the first shot. Slight fever and chills, but was fine the next day. I had absolutely no reaction to the second one. Unfortunately our insurance didn’t cover it, and Manitoba Health didn’t either. But it’s worth the cost not to get shingles.
