Shingles anyone?

I had shingles on my forehead 4.5 years ago. I went to an urgent care and got the Valtrex right away because I was afraid of them getting into my eye. I hope you were able to get a script today.

Yeah - see if you can get that anti-viral medicine. My Mom had shingles 9 1/2 years ago when she was 83 and suffers - to this day - from the risidual effect: post herpatic neuralgia. PHN is a more common lingering problem in the elderly. Had she taken the acyclovir as soon as she discovered the rash, she might have had a milder case of it.

My aunt has that too, although she is not elderly, she has to be careful when its really windy, she holds her left eye otherwise it really hurts!!

I went to medexpress per the advice of a number of people here. The doc wasn't 100% sure that it was shingles, but thought it probably was. Gave me an anti-viral med and also an anti-fungal, in case it is a common fungal infection. Also prescribed percosets for the pain.

Adult DD has had them so many times, we've lost track.. She's had them on her arm; on her back; bra line; face and neck; hip; etc..

We've also noticed a pattern.. It's almost always in the winter or early spring and if she's extremely stressed out over something, she'll get them again.. For her the meds haven't been helpful at all, so she just gets through each bout the best she can..

Hope you have better luck and your bout doesn't last too long..

Grrrrr, I have shingles - AGAIN!! I had shingles 3 years ago after back surgery. I had surgery on my cervical spine 5-6 weeks ago, and I just discovered the rash tonight.

Of course tomorrow is sunday, so I won't be able to see my doctor until monday at the earliest.

Thank you for reading my whine. Anyone here ever had shingles? Where was it. Mine is in a private place.

I have a lot of nerve sensitivity, last week during trigger points doc mentioned about the shingle type breakout. It is linear and follows the sensory nerve path...
I use a Preperation H, lidocain type cream or my lidoderm patch in a strip. The patches were developed by a doctors whose wife had shingles.
Benadryl and or cream helps.

I think the sensory nerves, the ones that feel heat, pain are hyper from the surgery and just waking up with the scabberoos that itch like heck,

I had shingles 12 years ago along the left side of my bra line. Even now, I sometimes experience pain in the same places where I had the rash. It usually comes when I'm stressed. I've never had another outbreak thank God!

I had it 2x -- the first on the back of my head - horrible electricity shocking type of pain feeling, and once on my leg - just an "uncomfortable rash"

The one from my head - i had lingering effects for months, and rarely - but still happens, if i'm stressing, I'll get a few "zaps" in my head where I had shingles in the past

Both times - was under a lot of stress when it came out

Had shingles on the left side of my waist, oh gosh, 12 years ago? Wow. I'll never forget how that felt, the itch and horrible PAIN, and never want to deal with that again! And then there was the ER doctor; she took one look and stepped back, quite quickly; I was a bit offended! Thank goodness I had insurance, apparently the stuff she gave me for it would have cost over $300 otherwise

I got a line of shingles running down a nerve on one side of my scalp in Oct 07, then got them in the same place exactly 1 year later. Very weird. Felt like I had a horrible throbbing headache. Lasted about 3 weeks each time.

I had my first shingles outbreak right before Thanksgiving - I got a rash on my left side and had no idea what it was, thought it was a rash from working out - I waited too long to go to the Dr so I did not get anitvirals - I was lucky in that it was just itchy and not too much pain.

I am interested in getting the Shingles Vaccine. Has anyone here gotten it after they have had a break out of shingles and has it prevented additional breakouts?
