Shifting around borrowed points on existing reservation?

Hi everyone, I have been lurking for quite a while but I have a question. We've got a February use year and an existing reservation for May 2007 (a week at VWL in a studio+2br) that was booked on a combination of banked 2006 points, all of our 2007 points, and a few borrowed 2008 points.

Now, things are looking like we could go to WDW for four nights in January 2007. But, since we can't borrow 2008 points until Feb, and our 2007 points are tied up in the existing May reservation, I think we may be stuck.

Would MS allow us to change the May reservation to use some more borrowed 2008 points, to free up some 2007 points for us to borrow for January? :confused3

January 2007 is actually in your 2006 use year, so you'd need 2006 points.

Your 2006 points have already been banked into 2007, so you can't get them back.

The only thing you can do is try to free up some 2007 points, then borrow them into 2006 so you can make a Jan 2007 reservation. If you do this, make sure your reservation is solid and you won't need to cancel, because if you did cancel, you'd have points that would be stuck in 2006 and would expire Jan 31, 2007.

As for getting the 2007 points freed, MS can probably do that by just doing a simple reallocation of points. The only time they won't is if someone is trying to bypass the 11/7 month windows by reallocating resort points.

Worse case if they can't just reallocate the points, then they would have to cancel your existing reservation first (thus freeing all the points that were used) and then make new reservations, using banked, current, and borrowed points as required. This would definitely work. Of course, it would all depend on availability.

Hope this helps.

You could rent points from someone else either by transferring to your account or by having them make the reservation in your name. You could borrow 2008 points into 2007 then free up 2007 pts (not banked or borrowed) to borrow to your 2006 use year. You could look at cash either independently through CRO or look for the members discount at DVC options. Assuming you're looking at a long weekend, do cash. You can get deals for Jan. If you know someone who's an II member, they can likely get you a unit during that time as well for almost nothing.
