Shhhh! Mickey's Twying to Sweep, be Quiet! - A July '11 Anniversary TR - Update 12/24

Hi Danielle.

I just noticed the link to this new TR. Great to see you back posting. Looking forward to seeing more antics from Wicket and kid-isms from Joaquin!

I'm so glad you're coming over for this one! I plan on finishing my other TR up soon.

Just found this TR and I'm subscribing! We are planning our trip for next summer and DS will be 2 and 1/2 at the time so I'm anxious to see how a toddler handles Disney! This is bound to get interesting :thumbsup2

:welcome:

Oh yes, interesting it will become. I don't know if it was more interesting for the kids though or the adults!

I'm onboard.
With you still.......:lmao:

Waiting for more.....:surfweb:

KIM

Yay, I'm glad you're here Kim!

I promise you, I will finish my other TR. I will......;)

I'm here!! Sorry we never got a chance to meet up. I guess there's always Oct! Can't wait it was for a lack of trying lol. I feel like today was the first day I could sit and chill in the past 3 weeks I've been here between my BFF coming from Cali, family in for a whole week, and job interviews galore! I can't wait to read about your trip!!!

What a cutie pie he is. ALl those curls, some women would kill for those. Brave people flying with a 3 year old, but he looked very happy. Can't wait for more.

Subbing! I love kid-isms - they're my favorite part of working at a daycare. Can't wait to hear more. popcorn::

I know, I was so sad we couldn't meet up! It just seemed like the weather / schedule wasn't on our side. We will for sure make plans in October.

:welcome:

He's pretty stinkin' cute, I know. Jason doesn't trim his hair too often because of his curls. I think he's nervous that they'll go away.

Joaquin is a really good flyer. This is his second time flying and it went very well.

Subbing! I love kid-isms - they're my favorite part of working at a daycare. Can't wait to hear more. popcorn::

:welcome:

Joaquin is chock full of random kid-isms. It was hard keeping up with him and taking note of all of them.

So we're sitting on the runway, with Jason wondering if we're ever going to take off....

DSCN0109.jpg

And then thankfully, this ends up happening.

DSCN0114.jpg

Finally it was time for us to take off. We were about 30 minutes behind our normal departure time at that point. We were taking off in no time, and all during takeoff, Joaquin was.....

DSCN0115.jpg

We settled ourselves in and started reading and listening to music when we got the okay to turn on our electronics. We passed over Chicago and Jason got some pretty good shots.

DSCN0119.jpg

DSCN0117.jpg

I <3 my city.

Then Joaquin woke up. A note for you guys to remember during this TR is that the kids call me TeeTee. I don't like Aunt or anything like that, so this works for me.

"Tee tee, can I pway with my Weapster?"

I said sure.

He was very intent playing his Cars game. Lightning McQueen is his favorite character ever.

DSCN0124.jpg

"You lookin' at me?"

DSCN0122.jpg

Before we knew it, it was time to land. The flight went really well, and Joaquin is so well behaved. Jason put Joaquin next to the window to watch the landing.

DSCN0125.jpg

He was so excited about it, he proceeds to turn to Jason and I and say:

"We don't want to cwash into those buildings, wight?"

In the loudest voice you could ever imagine. Nice Joaquin, very nice. Just say what everyone else is thinking, but refuse to say. Nice going kiddo.

We landed and we were delayed another 15 minutes because there was no gate available for us to taxi to.

We finally deplane. Joaquin's stroller is waiting for us.......but his car seat is not.

That's hot.

Jason says to go ahead and he waits to see what's going on. We wait, and wait, and wait, and wait.

Jason finally emerges 10 minutes later with the car seat. Apparently, it was in the front of the plane the whole time, yet the crew had no idea. Thanks everyone.

So now we're thinking, let's send dad to get the car and we'll all wait for the baggage. Kill two birds with one stone, right? Foiled again! Dad got the car in no time. We got the luggage.........well, let's just say it took FOREVER! Ever seen the movie the Sandlot? Yeah, say FOREVER like that, and you'll get what I'm saying.

Dad actually got the car, put the carry ons in it, and came back to baggage, and it still hadn't arrived! Finally it all came. It was time to get out of there. We had a Dodge Caravan. Here is our picture.

DSCN0127.jpg

So we get moving, and the air control to the back of the van is locked. There was no easy way to unlock it. Meaning, unlike my parents Armada, there was no button that simply said "rear control." So mom had to bust out the instruction manual. She finally figured out how to unlock it.

The air conditioning was broken in the back. :scared1:

Wait. You're telling me that we're in Orlando, in the middle of July, and the air conditioning in the back of the minivan is broken?

By this point, we were already 20 minutes away from the rental center. There was no turning back now.

To top it off, there was traffic. Really bad traffic for some reason. I'm watching the lock, because we need to get to Orlando Fun Tickets to get Jason's and Joaquin's tickets so we can go to the Magic Kingdom tonight. And they close at 7:30pm.

So how did Joaquin keep us entertained throughout this ordeal?

With the gum on the bottom of his shoe.

DSCN0130.jpg

DSCN0131.jpg

I know, gross. But what are you going to do when a three year old does that? Then the ding dong says to Jason to get it off of his hand. Jason just looks at him and says that he was the dee dee dee that touched it to begin with.

We made it to Orlando Fun Tickets by 7:10pm. Thank goodness we made it in time. Jason, Joaquin, and I stayed in the car while mom and dad ran in to get the tickets we had ordered through my corporate website. Love discounts!

They made it out in no time, and we were FINALLY on our way into WDW.

Now, this is why I adore my nephew. Most kids at this point would be having a meltdown. Not Joaquin. He just sat there and chatted it up with us, and took it like a champ. We had been traveling already for quite some time, and he was patient as ever.

We also needed to pick up Dad's annual pass. Since we were near Downtown, Dad wanted to stop there.

My dad. He's a funny guy. He doesn't like doing anything by himself. So we pull into the parking lot at the Marketplace. Mind you, there are no parking spaces. Instead of running in by himself, he looks at my mom all pathetic, because you know. Men. They don't want to do things alone. So mom sighs and gets out of the car with him, leaving me illegally parked at the Marketplace. I got out of the car and sat in the drivers seat waiting.

I have to admit, I panicked. I didn't want the Disney popo to think that I was doing something wrong. So I see Disney popo on bikes, riding through. And I panic and move the car. :scared1:

I wanted them to think I was looking for a space, you know. And then lo and behold, the only big of pixie dust so far.

I FOUND A PARKING SPACE!

I pulled in and we waited. Seems to be a theme of our trip already.

I got out of the car, because I wanted mom and dad to know where we parked. Finally they came out.

We were on our way to POP!

Bet you thought that would never happen.

We go to the resort and we all went in. Joaquin really needed to get out of the car at this point. They got us two rooms right next to each other in the 90's section. Pretty far away, but I didn't care. It was just one night. We were on the third floor, which mom wasn't too thrilled about, but she dealt with it.

Then Jason not being prepared struck. Mom, dad, and I had all packed an overnight bag, so that was all we needed at POP. All we needed from our suitcase was cosmetics, which was easy to find. Jason.....did nothing of the sort.

So we pull the car over, and I swear, it took him FOREVER to find anything in the suitcase. He should have just pulled out the suitcases, but making something easy is not in Jason's repertoire. I think it took him like 20 minutes. The whole time, my mom is sending me smoke signals from the building wondering when we're going to be done.

We finally got in the room. Again, you really felt like that was never going to happen, didn't you?

DSCN0132.jpg

DSCN0133.jpg

We were all so hungry at this point, I was ready to eat Wicket. I just didn't think that would taste too good.

So we packed it off to Everything POP. I squeeled with joy a little bit, because this is my favorite food court. I gave Jason my order and took Joaquin to find a seat.

He saved Wicket from my hunger and wanted to play.

DSCN0134.jpg

Our food finally came, and we were very happy. Joaquin was thrilled to be eating again.

DSCN0135.jpg

Here was mine.

DSCN0136.jpg

Love the chicken penne alfredo.

We were all happy.

DSCN0138.jpg

DSCN0139.jpg

Joaquin loves to eat. You'll notice a trend here.

DSCN0137.jpg

DSCN0140.jpg

He was so excited in fact that he flung chocolate milk on the wall.

See the drip?

DSCN0142.jpg

Wicket was just grateful I didn't eat him out of pure hunger.

DSCN0141.jpg

Up Next: A park!

It was so nice for all of you that your littlest passenger was so patient. :lovestruc

The Chicken Penne Alfredo is my first 'go to' meal at Pop. :)
Mom's Fried Chicken is second, if we are eating in on the right nights.

It worked out very well for us. He is a very patient guy, and only had a few "moments" on this trip.

I love the chicken penne alfredo at POP! My dad loves the fried chicken too.

Aaw Joaquin looks soo cute! :cutie: How nice that he was patient through all that travelling.

Great pics of Chicago! :thumbsup2

Oh no at the air conditioning being broken in the van - that must have been hard going esp with it being soo hot.

I'm glad Everything Pop is your fav food court as am looking forward to eating there during our trip.

I was grateful that he was because it could have gone a lot worse then it did.

Jason loves the window seat so I give him the responsibility off taking those kinds of pictures when we fly.

The AC was so annoying. My mom was frustrated that my dad didn't turn around and ask for a different car. I was the one that suffered the.most though because I was all the way in the back.

You are going to love the POP food court. They have so much to choose from.

I didn't want to leave anyone hanging any longer before we got to a park (finally), so I figured I would update here.

The Magic Kingdom had magic hours until 3am on this day. Now, with a 3 year old, there was no way we would stay out that late, but we figured we would at least go and have a little bit of fun. We had no morning plans, since the rest of the group was arriving at about 10:30am.

And also because Joaquin kept on saying "now we're going to a park, wight?"

Well, how could you resist that?

We headed out to the bus stop and the Magic Kingdom bus pulled up in about 2 minutes. It's my favorite thing about POP. Speedy bus service. Not so much about deluxe resorts. Snaily bus service.

We hop on the bus and Joaquin proceeds to play with Wicket. I didn't catch this exchange, because I didn't want to blind people with the flash of the camera. He's holding Wicket, and hovers him over the map, talking in a Wicket-esque voice, "can I read the map?", "where are we going to go?" You get the picture. Totally cute.

We get to the park and Wishes is going on strong. I was kind of irritated, because I did not plan this well. We had the fireworks dessert party planned for Sunday. Oh well. Joaquin's face was priceless.

DSCN0143.jpg

Love how both dad and Joaquin are all like, "what?"

CIMG3982.jpg

CIMG3983.jpg

Gotta love kids and fireworks.

I'm going to have a small rant here. I have been a traveler both without a stroller (because I have no kids), and with a stroller. People without strollers complain about the people with, people with strollers complain about people without strollers. Yackity smackity, blah blah.

So here's the story from the view of someone who has been on both sides. It's not the stroller or the lack of stroller. It's the dingaling who is driving the stroller or walking.

Some people have no sense of what is going on, they don't care about people around them, they don't pay attention, they just don't care. These are the people that are the problem. I was both hit by strollers and I was run over by people without strollers on this trip.

Why don't we just leave it at some people are just rude?

Okay, sorry.

I brought this up because Main Street was packed during Wishes. And here I am with the stroller trying to navigate through a sea of people who just don't care about anybody but themselves. I'm not perfect, but dangit, why do I always have to be the person that moves?

I finally made it into Tomorrowland unscathed. Our mission was simple. You know what's coming.

DSCN0145.jpg

I asked Joaquin to tell me how he felt about the matter.

DSCN0144.jpg

DSCN0147.jpg

It was during this line that the most hilarious thing happens. Joaquin is a hugger. He hugs everyone. So we're standing in line, minding our own business, and full on hugs the guy in front of us. He clearly thought it was Jason, because they were wearing similar shorts.

Joaquin is short. So I don't think this guy was too thrilled about being hugged full on by his junk. His face was priceless. The guy was all :scared1:.

I kept trying to get Joaquin's attention, and it wasn't until Jason said something that Joaquin looks at Jason.

Looks at the guy.

Looks at Jason.

Looks at the guy.

And proceeds to run for his life. :rolleyes1

The poor guy didn't know what hit him, but I think it gave his girlfriend a real idea about how he feels about kids. He couldn't have looked more repelled by the fact that he just got hugged by a toddler. Jason joked that maybe his girlfriend would be rethinking their relationship shortly. :rotfl:

So if you're ever in WDW at the same time we're there, look out for Joaquin.:hug::hug::hug:

So we finished. And would anyone ever doubt....

I won.

DSCN0149.jpg

Not my best score, but I'll just say I was tired from the long travel day.

I took some redneck ride photos. Don't you just love that all you see is Joaquin's little head?

DSCN0150.jpg

I tried to look very intent.

DSCN0151.jpg

We threw Joaquin in with Zurg after that. We figured he needed to learn to control himself after his hugging incident.

DSCN0155.jpg

Then it was off to.

DSCN0157.jpg

I have a picture of mom and dad on this, but she would injure me if I posted it, so I won't.

So Joaquin was fascinated by the fact that he heard Mickey on the Peoplemover. And this is where the title of the trip report came from.

Joaquin: Is that Mickey?

Me: Yup, it's Mickey.

Joaquin: I don't think we can see Mickey right now, because he's asweep.

Me: Well, we can.....

Joaquin: Shhhh!!!!

Me: Huh.....

Joaquin: Shhh! Be quiet! Mickey's twying to sweep!

Me: Oh.

Joaquin: Shhhhh!

After we finished the rest of our ride in silence, we decided to head over to Winnie the Pooh. Joaquin liked the interactive queue very much.

DSCN0159.jpg

DSCN0161.jpg

DSCN0164.jpg

He really liked the honey walls too, but who wouldn't?

While in line for this, the adults were all losing steam. Joaquin, not so much, but we didn't want to push it.

We made it back to the hotel, and while Jason was in the washroom, I tried to put Joaquin to bed. He was wired for sound though, but he laid down very nicely. And the best part of my day occurred at this moment.

Joaquin: TeeTee?

Me: Yes sweetie?

Joaquin: You're the best.......

:lovestruc:cloud9:

7/8 Kid-isms

TeeTee, you're the best.

So sweet! Your nephew is adorable. How great that he's so chill and go with the flow. I'm sure it made your trip infinitely easier!

I just have to post that you are doing a fantastic job with the trip report. You are right about Joaquin he is a fantastic traveler for sure. He was so excited to get to WDW and to see Mickey he had more energy than we did after our long travel day. And ending up getting a crappy van with no rear air was not a good way to start our vacation but seeing Joaquin's face during the fireworks was the icing on the cake.:cheer2:

Oh, it definitely did. He's so easy to deal with. No major crazies from him.

Thanks mom! Chime in whenever, please!

He certainly had a lot more energy then I did at the end of the day. I was so ready to crawl into bed and he was just going, going, going. Our little energizer bunny.

So glad I found your TR. I am absolutely loving it! How great that your parents have been married for 40 years. That is definitely reason to celebrate!!!! Your nephew is just too cute! I love the picture where he is so intently playing his Leapster. He is really concentrating!! Sorry to hear that the minivans air was broken in the back. That must have been miserable in the Orlando heat.
Cannot wait to read more! popcorn::

What a cutie! Subbing to follow along. I love all the cute little things he's said and done so far, but that "TeeTee, you're the best" was beyond sweet! Sounds like this was a fun trip. :goodvibes

Love how excited Joaquin is to watch Wishes and even after all that travelling he still had lots of energy!

Lol at Joaquin hugging a random stranger! I love all the kid-isms.

Yay on getting a high score on Buzz and I love how travelling with kids gives a totally different experience to when it's an adults only trip.
