Last year was a rough year for us. After having my husband's pay cut several times during the year, he was laid off unexpectedly 8 days before we had a big family reunion trip to Disney planned. We had to cancel and the kids were so dissappointed since we had been saving all out pennies for the past two years to do this trip.
So my husband has a job interview planned in Orlando on tuesday. We are 6 hours away but if we have to move for a job we will. Plus, I wouldn't mind living near the mouse! Thanks to some florida resident discounts and a generous relative, we are able to go to orlando as a family and stay at disney for 5 nights! Instead of telling the kids we are going to Disney we are telling them we are going to tallahassee to spend the day while Dad has an interview and possibly stay overnight. I homeschool my ten year old son and my four year old daughter so we are flexible enough for traveling around when dad has an interview out of town- usually its just an hour away or so and we visit museums while he's at his interview.
So when we get to tallahasee I have snack bags packed for the kids with "surprise we are going to Disney World" labels on their water and snacks. We are planning on stopping for a snack and springing the surprise on them.
The hardest part -other than planning a vacation with three days notice- is keeping my excitement level down. I can not wait to see the look on their faces when they find out where we are going, I hope it erases the looks I saw when I told them we had to cancel the last trip.
Thanks for letting me share my secret!
