In 2006, I had spent months planning a WDW trip for June '06 with my three daughters, in April, my eldest told me she was 5 months pregnant, due date July 10th, so, we cancelled our trip. The baby was a healthy, beautiful blue eyed boy, born July 14th. This past Christmas, the present for the kids is the WDW trip we never had the year before, but, last week, May 1st, 2007, I finalized our trip plans, paid for airline tix for June 27- July 9th, guess what, she's pregnant again! At time of our travel this June, she'll be at 18 weeks and traveling with myself, a single Dad, herself and her one year old son, my fifteen and ten year old daughters. Anyone have any pointers? We're not cancelling this one. The last pregnancy, she felt great, no morning sickness, we're hoping for the same this time. But I'm a bit concerned that she'll want to go on the attractions like the Tower of Terror and alike, and I've never flown with a one year old baby before.

Also, have any of you ever used a "child leash? We used one on our last trip with my (at the time) three year old and it kept her close, because my other child wandered off at Alfredos one year and it was the worst horrific experience in our lives, but I'm afraid of the looks we get from people. I want my grandson to be safe and secure, because I'm sure he'll be walking by June.

Congrats again grandpop!
Travelling with a 1 year old is pretty easy. They are happy just to be there. The flight won't be so bad..bring snacks and diversions like a portable dvd player with baby einstein or other stuff the baby likes. (jet blue is great too bc they have satellite tv's on every seat. I was 26 weeks pregnant in disney and it wasn't bad...i would advise against riding roller coasters and things with drops ie tower of terror, but otherwise it will be fine. Your daughter will need lots of help though, bc she will be pretty tired. Have fun! It will be great.

I know when I've been pregnant, my doctor always told me to listen to my body. It would tell me when I needed to rest, drink, and eat, and take it easy. At 18 weeks, she'll be smack dab in the middle of that incredible pregnancy-tiredness/fatigue. It doesn't seem to lift until around ....ohhhhh, I'd say 22 years later, give or take a few years. :thumbsup2

At that time of year, and being 18 weeks along, I'd say my biggest concern would be her fluid intake. You sound like such a caring, conscientious dad, I'm sure you'll make sure she drinks enough. And putting her feet up periodically throughout the day would be very important....don't want any blood clots or swollen ankles.

As far as rides go, I don't really know what the protocal is. I went to WDW when I was 6 months pregnant and the only things I didn't ride were BTMR and ToT and SM, I think. I think that's all I didn't ride. But at 6 months I was much bigger and the thought of the safety bars, etc on my stomach didn't sound good to me. My doctor didn't restrict me though, he knew where we were going and he told me, "Just listen to your body! Don't ignore what it's telling you."

And the child leash....USE IT! If it'll keep a child safe, I'm all for it. At 1 year old though, chances are he'll just be toddling a little, not really running yet, but who knows....maybe he's a track star in the making! pirate:

Have a good time, take lots of breaks, and tell us all about it when you get back!!

I'm heading there 12 weeks pregnant in a few days. :)
What I would suggest is for your daughter to follow her child's schedule...both can take naps and go to bed early (maybe one night you can come back with the child and let her go and see the fireworks)...and they should both be happy and well-rested. :) That's my plan this trip, for sure, with my 2 year old! If I understand correctly, most of the rides that have height restrictions also are not suggested for pregnant women.

You will have a BLAST watching the 1-year-old enjoy everything. If you use Fastpasses well, the 10 and 15 year old will still get to see everything they want to, too.

There are several threads on this board about flying with young children...you may want to do a search. My son has already flown ~14 round trips and it's really no problem.

Have fun!!

Taking a trip at 18 weeks is a great time to travel during pregnancy. The second trimester is the honeymoon of a pregnancy. No more quesiness, you're not as tired, and you aren't huge. When I was pregnant with DD, we went on a cruise when I was around that point in my pregnancy and we're are going to WDW in a couple of weeks when I will be 20-21 weeks along. She needs to know going into it that she just can't ride some of the big thrill rides, but there is a ton that you can do there while pregnant.

As for the toddler leash, some people think that they are cruel, but they are quite prevelant at WDW. We have one that looks like a puppy dog backpack (from Walmart) for DD and she loves it. She's not really a wanderer, so we actually don't really use it often, but she begs us to put it on her. If you feel like it is something that you need, I would not hesitate to get one.

BTW...my DD's birthday is July 14th as well (she was born in 2004)!

We use this same "leash". In fact if you look at the picture of my DS hugging Woody in my sig you can see it. He LOVED it! Wore it all the time and even WANTED to put it on. We never got any strange looks and most people were asking us where we got it.

I've been to WDW at 7 months pregnant (Oct. 2003) and it was fine. I didn't overdo it and took lots of breaks. We are going again this year in Sept. or Oct. and I just found out this weekend that I'm pregnant with our 2nd child. Guess I'll be taking a pregnant trip again this year!

18 weeks should be a great time to go to WDW. She'll have passed out of the morning sickness time and still be rather small in the belly. I have always felt great at that time of my pregnancy even after horrific first trimesters with sickness. Should be a green light this year!! :)

If your grandson is just a new walker, he will most likely be in the stroller for the majority of the time. As a new walker I would be careful of a "leash" as they are still very clumsy and I can see the adult holding the "leash" accidentily pulling on it and tripping up the child. Also as a new walker I as the parent or grandparent would make sure to be physically very close to the child as they are small and unsteady I would not want a bunch of other people around them. I think a leash might be better suited for an older toddler or two year old. IMHO

CONGRATULATIONS!!![/SIZE]

Thank you all for the well wishes!!! Only 37 days left for our trip, she's still feeling great. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyone know where I can get those child leashes besides Walmart? Just in case they don't have them?

I think only she will know at that time if she is ready for the trip. I was pregnant last Fall and felt great after 14 weeks! At that point, I wasn't tired and wasn't sick at all. I was at the gym 3 days a week riding the stationary bike and would have been so up for a trip to Disney!

As for a leash, unless the baby has been walking for some time now and is very steady on his feet (which would be wonderful for a 1 yr old!), I don't know if a leash would be a great idea. On our last trip, I saw many toddlers who were well beyond beginning walkers, become very unsteady when mom or dad tried using the leash on them. I saw lots of little ones fall down backwards due to the pull of the leash. Just a thought...

I've been to Disney when I couldn't ride the big rides and although I missed riding them, I did have fun.

Enjoy the trip and I'm sure even without the rides, your daughter will have a great time!

We returned after a 13 day stay and I'm happy to report that my daughter did very well, as did my 1 y/o grandson, in fact, they did much better than I did.

PS, we just found out the baby will be a boy, due to arrive in
November 2007. Hey, maybe another turkey day baby to share my b/day.

she'll do great, I am sure...I have been at various stages of my prev 2 pregnancies, with no problems whatsoever--except I couldnt ride the R&R coaster:)
Oh, and disney is great for us pregnant ladies (out of the first trimester, anyway.....all those ymuuy snacks and the free dining pan to boot...
FYI I will be 30 weeks when we go in Sept:)

I went at 16 weeks and 21 weeks pregnant, and I felt really good. In fact, when we went in May (at 21 weeks), my DH was more tired than me! Just be patient if she needs (and should take) frequent breaks for water, resting, and bathrooms! I also wore my first pair of crocs on the 2nd trip, and they seemed to help a lot!
Have fun!

I just got my 13 month old that backpack leash. He's been walking for 2 months. He loves walking on his own and hubby and I have to hunch over a lot to hold his hand. Didn't sound fun for 8 days. He does really good with it. I don't hold the end of the tail though as he would get hog tied and probably hog tie other people. I hold it as close to the bear's body as I can without having to stoop over the whole time. I've been having him practice with it so we're ready for our trip in 3 months. He really likes it and wants to wear it. Good luck!
