So, when you take the shortcut from Windsor Hills to WDW via Sherbeth road, do you get to pass through an official Disneyworld gate? Or is this a backway that will make me feel like I am sneaking in? LOL

No gate...you'll be "sneaking." You enter near the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Nope, not an official gate in terms of the ornate gates that you have by Lake Buena Vista, off Osceola Parkway, World Drive, etc. It's a back road that is mainly used by employees and locals, although it is open to anyone.

Now I feel like I missed out on something.......probably only traffic though.

It sure did feel official to me :goodvibes

Some people like to stop and take photos by the ornate official gates. For me, it's all about getting on property the quickest and more expedient way.

Well its not anything you are not allowed to do. So dont feel bad like you are sneaking. You might miss the bigger gates but you get to pass by other cool things. When you first enter you will pass by a Disney audition area where they hold the face character / character performer auditions. ( It will be on your right hand side.) Also a employee recreation area is located there as well I believe. Then AK be one of the first parks you pass.

You do still get to go under the MK archway and go through all the same official stuff anyone that went the long way would. But you can save a LOT of time and stress.

You wont miss anything . In fact you get to see a little more.

If you really want an interesting view, enter from the backside of the Magic Kingdom sometime. I don't know how to describe the directions...I just know how to get there! I think it's called Reeve Road or Reese Road maybe?

Another neat "behind the scenes but open to all" thing to do is to drive back to Disney University. Drive straight past the Contemporary. If I remember correctly, you follow that road around to an intersection and turn right. You will pass the monorail roundhouse building on your right, worth the drive just for that. Keep going and pass Disney Holiday Services. Then turn right into Disney University parking lot. You may enter the building and walk around, see various displays, awards, etc. You can browse Company D, the cast member store, but you can't buy anything. It really makes you feel like you are sneaking around.

More of a sneaker...no ornate gate like on World Drive (but it's quicker).

There is(was) a Company D store on Sherbeth, but I do not think they even allow non-CM's into it. Also, the CM recreation center is on Sherbeth.

Yes, take Reams Road to Center Drive. Then, if you turn left on World Drive, you get to Contemporary. If you turn right to Floridian Way, you reach GF.

Can someone give me the actual way to MK using this road? Like when I leave WH...what direction do I turn and all that good stuff?

When you leave WH you turn left onto Old Lake Wilson Rd. You can go right up to 192 and turn left and then take a right onto Sherberth at the next set of lights OR turn left out of WH onto Old Lake Wilson and then take a left onto Morgan Williams Rd (about half mile) then another left onto Funie Steed Rd and then a right onto Entry Point Rd. Follow Entry Pt up to 192 and cross it and you'll be on Sherberth and then follow Sherberth to the lights and take a right onto Osceola Parkway, you can then follow the signs to the park you want to go to.
When you return from Disney, follow the signs for the Animal Kingdom area and as you get closer for Animal Kingdom Lodge (keep left as you get near AK park entrance). This will take you back to the intersection with Sherberth Rd. Turn left and go back the way you came.
We usually do the Morgan Williams and Funie Steed roads so that we avoid 192 except for crossing it.
It's very easy once you do it. On this map it's line #1 (red). You can zoom in for more detail.

Sorry guys, dumb question here..... is this the shortcut from WH to Magic Kingdom or a shortcut to any of the parks?

thanks!

This is exactly the area I wanted to check out myself. Would you be able to give specific instructions on how to get from WH to the Reams road / back entrance ? Thanks :>

It's the shortcut to Disney property. It puts you near Animal Kingdom, and then you use Disney roads to access the other major areas. If you really want you can drive longer and come in through the main gate. It took my brother about 15 minutes longer to WH when he forgot and did that! ;)

It's mostly a shortcut to Animal Kingdom although you can get to the rest of the parks from there also. I don't think it's any shorter than World Drive for the rest of the parks but if there's a lot of traffic on 192 then it can be easier.
Once you get on Disney property there's plenty of signs to show you the way.
The Sherberth Rd shortcut will turn onto World Dr. for access to the other parks.
We usually use it when staying in the WH / FG area.

You can use this for any of the parks from WH.

Once on Sherberth, continue to the intersection with Osceola Parkway. From this intersection you can go left (to Animal Kingdom Lodge), or right onto Osceola Parkway (there's an option to go straight but I think that road goes into the AK behind the scenes operations). On Osceola Parkway you'll quickly see the turn to Animal Kingdom or continue a couple of miles to the left turn onto the World Drive ramp. Hollywood Studios is just ahead on the right. The exit off World Drive to Epcot is about 2 miles ahead on the right. And parking booths before the MK parking area is a mile or so beyond that.

There are two main ways. Assuming everyone can get to WDW from WH, I will skip that half for now:

The easiest is to take World Drive as if you are going to the Contemporary, but continue straight past Cont, pass Space Mountain on the left, continue around the curve, and turn right on Center Drive. It's all eye candy until you reach Reams Road. Then make a Uturn and follow the last part of the next paragraph to get back.

The second, but farther, way is to take SR535 north from I4. Turn left when 535 splits from Apopka Vineland Rd (I believe this is the first light past Hotel Plaza Blvd.) Around 4.5 miles, turn left on Reams Road. Last, turn left on Center Drive about 1.5 miles on the left. Eye candy ahead, the follow Floridian Way to the right. You will begin to recognize where you are by the time you get to World Drive.
