I'm trying to get together a trip end of April. As I'm bringing my yorkie this time was considering a few days in a universal hotel (holding ressies at Portofino Bay) and using starpoints to get a couple days in a Sheraton hotel. I was thinking of the Sheraton World as we will be going to Seaworld and it has a large property which I really like, BUT :scared:  :crazy2: :guilty: I went onto tripadvisor.com and read the absolute WORST, disgusting reviews that I have ever ever read about a hotel on their site, which consisted of them saying the standard outdoor rooms were absolutely uninhabitable, being filthy, disgusting, mold, excrement, smelly foul water, filth, getting sick, bugs, etc., etc.. I have stayed in many Sheratons and never found this and was shocked. This applies to their standard rooms only (which is what I have enough points for) which are their outside rooms, this resort consists of a large "tower" with newer rooms and some outside motel like rooms. The tower rooms and the resort and grounds get good reviews. My question is has anyone stayed there recently? Can all those bad reviews, and I mean bad being an understatement be off? I also called Starwood about my concerns and they weren't very nice or helpful and either was the manager of Sheraton World saying I have many choices such as paying more and upgrading or using more points. I figure I'm entitled to a clean room and should be upgraded if their hotel is getting that bad of ratings. I'm holding ressies at the Sheraton Studio City which gets decent reviews but is just a plain hotel, no real grounds which is what we really like, I like tropical plants, flowers, and grounds to walk around, etc. All hotels will get some bad ratings but this was unlike anything I had ever read, it was bad beyond belief. Anyway anyone ever stay there? Anyway its a real shame as what I got from Starwood and the manager at Sheraton World, they don't seem to take those reviews seriously. Thanks

Hi there, we stayed at the Sheraton World resort last September and I too was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, changing my booking to upgrade to a Tower room on the back of them. I saw a couple of the 'Motel style' rooms and didn't think that they warranted the reviews that were placed on tripadvisor, and indeed, due to a long check-in wait, I was offered a free upgrade to a Tower room anyway which left me feeling a little gutted that I had paid for the upgrade! I couldn't fault the resort at all and would certainly recommend it to anyone and to be honest, I was a little suspicious as to the validity of some of the complaints having seen the resort first hand. Ultimately, I wouldn't have any worries about staying there, the concerns that we had were addressed as soon as we raised them and the management dealt with them efficiently - they're a little free with their upgrades anyway so you'll probably end up in a Tower room anyway!

Thanks so much for your response. It does make me feel a little better. So you did actually see the regular standard outside rooms? Were the grounds nice? Looks very pretty from the pics. I think maybe we'll try it, Sheraton's do have the satisfaction promise but from the reviews seemed like the management wasn't too helpful, I didn't feel like fighting with anyone my first few days of my trip before we go over to Universal, so I appreciate your input. I really wanted grounds to walk around on and as we're bringing our little yorkie she enjoys walks, etc., and we like downtime so it seemed like a nice choice for us, but I was soooo worried with those comments. I still don't think I should have to pay for an upgrade room if thier standard rooms were that bad, and also didn't have the points available needed, so maybe I'll just book the regular rooms and hope for an upgrade. I usually always do get an upgrade in Sheratons with my gold status but those reviews were the worst! Whoa :scared:  I can deal with old hotels, small rooms, limited amenities but not filth! Anyone have another experience please let me know. Thanks again
