Sheraton Vistana Question

If this was answered elsewhere I apologize for the duplicate question. I saw the same question asked in the Vistana questions thread but it didn't appear that it had been answered and the searches I tried didn't come up with anything...

Anywhoooo, my friend got my family of 4, my parents, and her family a great deal at Vistana through RCI for Oct 1-8. My family of 4 is staying in our own 2 bedroom and she said the reservations shows 8/6 on it. Based on what I've been reading I'm guessing that means twin beds in the 2nd bedroom and likely be in Courts or Falls.

My question is, does anyone know or has anyone tried to push the twin beds together? My oldest daughter (4) sleeps in a full size bed and both she and my youngest (2 1/2) tend to flop around in their sleep so a little worried about twin beds. If it's not working out is it next to impossible to move to a unit with double beds in the 2nd bedroom?

If anyone has either tried to do this and found you can't or had success would appreciate hearing about your experience!

If it's an 8(6), then it should have two doubles in the second bedroom. Otherwise there would not be sleeping space for 8.
A 6(6) would have twin beds.

Most 2BR at Vistana are classified 8(6) and include doubles in the 2nd BR. It could also be a Courts upper which has singles in the 2nd BR. The Courts uppers sleep 8 because of a second sleeper sofa in the loft.

The good news - if you get a Courts upper you will be in one of the most freshly renovated units (Courts is due to complete in Sept). I am not sure if the beds will be movable after the renovations - depends on whether headboards are attached to the walls.

You can certainly request a unit with doubles if that causes concern. Use the Diamond Lane request form.

At the end of the day, if the biggest problem is that they sleep in twin beds the world won't come to an end

But, thinking we really need to consider using the diamond lane form. Don't think my friend has used this before since she told me they usually get their unit assigned at check in, but with three units (all in their name) aren't we risking that our rooms may be spread out over the large resort?

OK, I will preface this by saying our experience with RCI/Vistana wasn't great (and from what I read here that is unusual), but I would recommend using the diamond lane, following up with a phone call to the resort and if you are told that you have the unit you want...get the persons FULL name and have them email you confirmation. If you don't have it in writing, it probably doesn't exist. We had this exact scenario last summer...needed doubles, suspected we had twins by the reservation. Did the diamond lane, followed up with a phone call, only to arrive to find that we did indeed have twin beds. Since it was my parents and me with my two young daughters, it didn't work great to use the sleeper sofa. We went back, tried to get it changed, were told we had to talk to the RCI rep...she was nice but explained that they only get a few rooms in Vistana to work with and they were all full, so we were stuck with what we had. So we got a rollaway and lived with it. Didn't matter that we had requested otherwise...and the person we had talked to confirming our request didn't exist without a last name. Sigh. And we were in Courts, which was very definitely unrenovated as of last June. It just wasn't a great experience.

Diamond Lane might be able to link you up. We have traveled with large groups and they have always managed to at least keep us together on the same side of the resort (there are 2 distinct sections of the resort). Make sure you fill in 3 requests, and cross-reference.

If possible it seems to help to show up earlier. We always manage to get an early flight down, and proceed directly to the resort. They have a lot more flexibility about moving you around at noon than they do at 8:00 p.m. If we can get even one room immediately, we can go do our groceries (although there is also a fridge at the bell station if you want to shop and your room isn't ready). You can also start to use the resort ammenities immediately, so the kids can go for a swim, and we can settle in gently.

Vistana really does try to accommodate all guests, but if they are full (and they often are), that can limit their options.

Here is our experience as owners at Sheraton Vistana for about 18 years:

1. Sometimes Diamond Lane is faster other times it is not
2. Since October is not a high demand season IMO then I wouldn't fret over not using Diamond Lane
3. You are able to call within 30 days of your arrival to discuss specific units rather than be 'surprised' upon checkin
4. Vistana understandably will keep each unit in its Phase. Therefore if one all three of you are renting / exchanging in the same Phase then you will at least be close to each other without doing anything.
5. Yet, being someone who can be a bit of a control freak myself please see point 3 above.
6. We have always had a great time and terrific memories at Sheraton Vistana.
7. We have always had 2 bedroom units and the 2nd bedrooms have always been 2 double beds. If you want to be sure, call Vistana and ask them.

Thanks again for the great info, I will talk to my friend about using the form and cross referencing our reservations. We won't get bent out of shape if we aren't all right next to each other, but would be nice to have the same building or buildings next to each other if possible.
