we have a great rate of $99 a night for a two bedroom room in september.
did we get this good rate because they will be trying to sell us time shares or something? i read a thread where they are very pushy.....
can someone help me on this, or should i switch reservations to somewhere else.

You are defniitely not required to attend a presentation. They will probably call and invite you to one with some incentive. I've heard that you just need to politely tell them you are not interested, that they will not bother you about it.

I've done alot of research on Vistana (we're staying there in April) and have heard very little talk about them being "pushy".

Well one thing you can try to do is avoid the welcome pack. When you check in they try to direct you to another desk for your welcome pack, which is basically a way to try and get you to sign up for a timeshare presentation. I knew about it so I just kept walking when they were trying to get me to go to the desk saying I "forgot" my welcome pack.

I did get a couple calls which were annoying because the phone is loud, but it was my fault for answering it. Just dont answer and if the phone keeps ringing, because I am sure they will call multiple times until the talk to you, just unplug the phone.

We got that rate off the disboards and nobody asked or called us to attend a timeshare presentation. My friend just returned after being there for a week with her family (I booked it here too) and didn't either get any sale talk. She could not say enough good things about the resort. We both highly recommend it. Worst case scenario, just say no thanks.

We voluntarily went to the sales pitch this morning. They called and left messages three times to up the ante and for $75, I was sold. We also got a couple of hotel discount coupons we'll be unlikely to use.

It was very friendly and low key. I enjoyed talking to the saleswoman and the "closer" was also very nice. Neither were pushy at all. They had said an hour but it was more like 1 1/2 hours, but we were not in a rush this morning, so it wasn't a problem.

The kids had yogurt and bananas and I had a bagel, so it was also a nice light breakfast. They also do a lunch, but I don't know what it is like.

We stayed for that rate in Feb and it was fine. DH was worried too but no problem. We did get told to come in for our welcome package but we have gotten that before and knew it wasn't worth it. THey also did call but we simply dont' answer the phone at any resort we stay at. We often stay via the ILs timeshare exchange and have learned what any phone calls are going to be for. Family is going to call our cell.

My last experience with the sales people was in Aug, 2000 for a presentation and they were VERY pushy. We agreed to the 90 min sales presentation for $75. He dragged it on and on into 3 hours and we finally had to demand that we be released with our promised $75. He was very agitated with us. I'd say rude.....

Then, in 2007, when we made our reservations and Diamond Lane requests, someone from Vistana called about 3 weeks prior to arrival. They told us since we were owners, they wanted us to check in via the concierge service at the Cascades Rec bldg. Well....bad again. We waited for like 20 min for our assigned staff member and finally asked for the keys. At that point, our concierge , we discover, is a sales person. So we demand our keys and go to our room bypassing the whole "concierge" thing. We then get several phone calls.....we do not answer, but rather end up unplugging the phone.

It's about day 3 now. We come home from the parks only to find a note on our villa door. It's from the woman who called me on the phone 3 weeks prior to our arrival. Originally, she had confirmed our requests and invited us to check-in at the Cascades etc. Well the note from her pretty much says she didn't appreciate that we bypassed meeting with her on our check-in day after all the "hard work" she did to "get our requests fullfilled" etc.

So.....I, personally, have not had great luck with Vistana sales people, though I've read many accounts where people had no problems.

Are you a Vistana owner now?

If you do attend a ts presentation, just tell them you are a member at TUG and would only buy resale. It will end the presentation quickly.

we did tell them we'd only buy resale......that was in 2000. We were pretty saavy about timeshares in 2000 since we had been owners since '94. They pushed and pushed, touting the benefits of buying direct (star options etc).

But it's worth a try......and it probably depends on each individual sales person. We just keep getting the hard-sell/rude ones.
